Looking for a newer laptop, bought this Alienware in 2005. Its still kicking and I could just swap the video card (MXMII) but i think I just want a new one. Anyways here are two models Im looking at. Just looking for feedback on these setups, and any suggestions otherwise. Building a desktop is out of the question, I dont have the space or want to make the space, and I like sitting on my italian leather sofa :lol
Successor of the GeForce GTX 460M and based on the new GF116 chip. The performance is about 13% better than the 460M, but due to chip optimizations the power consumption is similar.
I have a laptop with that processor, 8gb 1333mhz RAM, lesser video card. Runs games well, but I also have a desktop, I just use the laptop for out of the house. Those are solid configurations though, good desktop replacement laptops.
Both look pretty damn badass however I’d get an SSD in any machine today if you can swing it. Having all of that processor with a traditional spinning hard disc (even a 7200) will be a huge bottleneck. Just my .02.

Thats what I think im going to end up with. Comes out to $1279, which is right around what I paid for my current m5550 Alienware years ago :lol And I can hold out on an SSD until that tech gets cheaper. Hopefully it does at a fast rate, just like smaller flash drives have recently.
RedDevil: Just custom built a laptop and ordered this week.

This. They will drop steadily in price as tech does. HDD is one of the easier things to swap later on. Just like the one I configured I ‘only’ :lol got 8gb ram, it can support 16. As far as HP anything, I will never own one. I have a few friends with newer HP, less than a year old, and my AW Core2 t5500 1.66ghz with 2gb ram destroys them, with half the power. I have had to wipe and reinstall at least 3 different machines, more than once.
