Any of you run higher end video cards like the AMD 7990? If so do you have any heat issues?
I’m building a new setup for password cracking and debating between running two 7970’s vs one 7990.

Couple things…first I’m surprised that password cracking requires any sort of video performance at all. Figured it all be CPU/RAM
I’d probably run two of the R9 290Xs (keep in mind I’m aiming at Battlefield 4 performance)

Also these should run fine on air cooling, provided you have adequate air cooling.
I have two of these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185054 and they push serious air.
You could also go liquid cooling if the rig is really getting hot.
I’m running a 7850 and it rarely gets hot. I’ve always used stock heatsink a and they work well.
Basically you get insane performance from a GPU vs CPU
Older article but does a good job explaining it with stats
Count me in.
If you do liquid cooling please don’t buy that bullshit self contained system it’s just a watery oil base that does nothing, get a direct heat pipe contact heatsink it cools wayyyyyy better.
The only reason I would need to liquid cool is dual 7990s
I could keep 3-4 7970s fine with air
Hmmm 290x vs 7970
Here’s a current benchmarking of the high end video cards.

I’m not sure if they are really benchmarked on what would matter more for your application of them. 3-4 GPUs is probably going to run pretty hot I would think. More so because they are stacked tightly with not a whole lot of exhaust.
I picked the 290 because of the Mantle, which adds performance increase to Battlefield.

Again, not sure if that applies to you.
Hmmmmm, why not just do 2x cards with single hour to keep the heat down?
They will be running for 2-3 days at a time maxed out.
I would prefer a setup that doesn’t need to be liquid cooled.
You can usually get away with 3-4 7970’s on air
I know a lot of people run dual high end cards for video gaming which is why I was curious if anyone on here was doing anything higher end.
This is a silly question.
Go for the 7990. SHA-256 mining works wonderfully on them.
The corsair ones look promising, have you used them before?
