im on my moms DELL Dimension 2400 and its the slowest dogish pc ive ever been on, please somebody help me figure out whats wrong.
My mom uses this PC for studing (Shes a Nurse) and she complains daily about its poor download speeds and such.

Defrag and run a few anti-spyware programs, such as Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware 2007, then run SmitfraudFix, RegCure, and AVG 7.5. That should take care of the brunt of it’s slowness. If you need any of that software, PM me.
If you want to PM me the service tag I can look up some details on it. There’s a chance that it’s a celeron with 256 megs of ram and a 5400rpm hard drive. That’s just slow no matter what you do to it, ya know?

What helped the most aside from from the defrag/spyware etc. was turning off all the non-essential services that aren’t used anyhow, and getting rid of a couple useless things like timestamps and that damn legacy filename shit…

Windows itself runs all kinds of crap. From auto-updates(which i disable on slow computers), to a few different things for networks that obviously, if you don’t have a network you don’t need, lame error reporting, fast user switching which is dumb, help and support(lol), HTTP SSL and the list goes on…probably a good 20 things that can be disabled if you a.) aren’t on a network and b.) aren’t running a webpage off your computer…/shrug atleast that’s what I do.

As mentioned above. Youc an run the defrag and spuyware checks/virus scan. But ultimately you wana get the specs of the hardware and see what may need to be upgraded.
Combine the scans with about 1GB of RAM (if the computer supports it) and yo mama will be cruisin’.
check ram size via property of my computer and if it’s running 128 or 256mb of ram. Add a 512mb and should see a nice increase (tons if it was 128).
