PC Help ... Again

Ok … Tried that … Still nothing. This sucks … WTF could of happened

lol… wtf do i know???

what laptop? does it have a “function” or FN key and the ability to mute or control the volume from the keyboard?

:dunno:

sorry

Its an HP Pavillion dv6000 series (I think its a 64xx … but can’t remember for sure) … It does have the ability to mute/unmute and raise the volume up and down from the keyboard on top. (Has the quickplay functions on top of the keyboard)

Dont be … I appriciate your help dude. thanks!

did you check on hp’s site to see if there are updated drivers? did you notice if anything updated today?

No I didn’t look on HPs website. I didn’t notice anything updated … Im totally lost.

id try that… as long as its nothing hardware related it should work… maybe :X

I searched for updates and it claims that I have the most updated version available.

I just don’t under stand how sound can just quit. LOL … This sucks!

well?? what happens wehn you use the keyboard to raise and lower the volume? is there a volume indicator on the screen? does it appear to be working?

That portion seems to be working fine. I can raise and lower the volume … And mute and un mute volume. And if I’m playing music etc. The " volume meter" moves up and down just like it is playing … I just done hear anything out of the computer.

could be that you’re speaker physically shit? it’s possible i guess? It’ll suck if it’s integrated… is it still supported by HP? I can’t really say that I’ve ever experienced that though.

there should be an 1/8" jack… plus in headphones or speakers… can you hear sound?

I hope that the pysical speakers aren’t shit. The laptop is less than a year old (Christmas will be a year). I didn’t think to try to plug in earphones … I can try that when I get home from work around 3PM.

I had this issue on my laptop a couple weeks ago (Vista Home Basic). I did a restart which in turn installed Windows Updates and it corrected. And I’ve also read about sound driver issues in Vista. Have you done Windows Updates yet?

I havnt noticed any new updates.

I did search for sound driver updates yesterday and had no luck with that though …

that should tell you if the problem is sound card based or speaker based… well… at least it should tell you if it’s a physical speaker issue.

if its less then a year old shouldn’t it still be covered under the factory Warranty still ?

Ok heres the deal …
I check for any new windows updates. The only update that is new is the Windows Vista Service Pack 1 … and it fails EVERY TIME … I trying rebooting and updating … and it fails right away. What the fuck?

On another note … If I plug in headphones … I get sound … But I wont get sound out of the speakers in my laptop. What the fuck again?

Mostly likey … :dunno:

I hate to have to wait some stupid amount of time to get it back though.

Another update …
I am getting Windows Update error 80246005

"If you receive Windows Update error 80246005 while checking for updates, it usually means either that you cannot save files to the Catroot2 folder or that the Cryptographic Service was not started or is not working properly. Follow the steps below to correct these problems.

To allow files to be saved in the Catroot2 folder
Windows Update might fail if Windows cannot copy files to the Catroot2 folder or replace files that are in that folder (in other words, if the folder or its files are set to read-only). To change that folder so you can write files to it, follow these steps:

Click the Start button , click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

At the Command Prompt window, type attrib -h -s -r c:\windows\system32\catroot2 (where c:\ is the drive where Windows is installed), and then press ENTER.

Next, type attrib -h -s -r c:\windows\system32\catroot2*.* (where c:\ is the drive where Windows is installed), and then press ENTER.

Type Exit, and then press ENTER to close the Command Prompt window.

To check and restart the Cryptographic Service
Click the Start button , click All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Run.

In the Open box, type cmd, and then click OK.

In the Services dialog box, click Windows Update (you might need to scroll down to find it; the entries are in alphabetical order).

Note the status of the selection (the status appears in the third column). Right-click Windows Update and do one of the following:

If Start is available, click Start.

If Restart is available, click Restart.

Now click Cryptographic Services (you might need to scroll up to find it).

Note the status of the selection (the status appears in the third column). Right-click Cryptographic Services and do one of the following:

If Start is available, click Start.

If Restart is available, click Restart.

Close the Services dialog box.

After trying either of these procedures, go to the Windows Update website site and try checking for updates again.

Note
While the primary cause of this error is usually what’s described above, some programs might also cause this error by preventing the Windows Update Services (SVCHOST) from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include firewalls, anti-spyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs, and proxy servers. If you have any of these programs running, you might need to turn them off while downloading and installing updates. Microsoft recommends you turn them back on after updating your computer. See Windows Update error 80072efd for steps you can take to change Windows Firewall settings.
