PC nerds - need help

looks like my video card is dying, so i have 2 questions…

  1. does anyone have a spare pci-e card i can borrow to test mine?

  2. given current rig specs
    Abit IP35Pro
Intel Core2Duo E6850 dual core processor
    4 gb (2x2gb) PC800 G.Skill Ram
    EVGA 8800GT
    WD 500gb 3.0 HDD
    Antec 900 Case
    Vista Home Premium 64

what are your suggestions for a sub $200 card that will run battlefield 3 nicely.

merci

define “nicely” :rofl

I don’t think there are too many options to play BF3 nicely for under $200. If you were OK with your 8800 you can upgrade slightly to the GTS version. Also upgrade your memory to the full 8gb the board can handle.

this computer is getting old now, but its never had a problem running games at full settings. crysis, dirt, battlefield bc2, cod, etc…

i dont mind not having full out, i dont plan on building a whole new rig for this game. was looking at radeon 6950’s newegg has em for 219 after rebate, but was wondering if the other hardware will be too much of a bottleneck in which case i should just go with a cheaper card

Maybe? I really dont know if that will do

I know for a fact a 460 series card will run it on mediumish settings smoothly comming from a few people I know who played in the alpha

Recommended is a 560ti which is around ~240 bucks which they say will run it on high settings (idk how well)

To run the game on ultra youll 580’s in SLI

Your CPU will deffinately bottleneck any new card, but it wouldent be a waste at all to get a decent new card

If you can go a little higher, I’d say just get a 560ti (I don’t pay attention to ATI cards so my opinions biased)

550ti’s are 170ish as well, but at that point id just spring and go for whats recommended

went out and bought a cheap pci-e card just to confirm my 8800GT is dead.

new card fixed the issues, but i’ll definitely need to pickup a new card before bf3.

might spring for a new processor and more ram as well, we’ll see how much i feel like spending :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks guys
