I went down to Dundee, NY on Saturday to watch the Central New York Ice Racing Association run a Euro-style rallycross around the pits at Black Rock Speedway. The event was pretty awesome, there were about 20 drivers running in groups of 4-8. The course was longer than I thought it would be (about a minute and a half). We were freezing, but it must have been even colder in the morning because the cars were still pretty clean when we got there. By the end of the afternoon it was a mud pit. There were a few people who I knew from rally/rallycross, and others who came from as far away as New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The ice racers are a little bit more crazy than most other people I know. It was fun to watch.
Marnie it was great meeting you at this event and Thank You for sharing your awesome pictures with us! It was an absolute blast.
Kudos to CNYIRA for putting this terrific event together for us to enjoy.
Oh, in that last picture, those were not demo derby cars per say, the track owner told us that they are rental Enduro class cars. They have an enduro once a month during the regular season for $200 each. There is no additional charge if you destroy the car.
I have hosted all of my pics on pages 1 and 2 of THIS album. They are not the sharpest, but the composition is pretty good. You’ll see a few that give views of the actual course in a few places too. Enjoy!
Thanks again to CNYIRA President Tim O’Brien, and all of the club officers.
Hey, I forgot to ask, how was the “no contact” rule? How did that work out? I did see a picture of a URQ in there, I can’t imagine he’d be happy with any sort of bumps.
