I rode it down the street tonight but didn’t want to get too crazy because it was getting late. It’s just a little bit faster than the ttr90 I am used to riding.
Is there a way to shorten a bike? When I sit on it, I am up on my toes. I do not have boots yet, but I may not be able to touch the ground with them on once I get a pair.
pull the seat cover off. eye ball the foam use a sharpy and make a line with the contour you want. cut on the line with an electric knife. trim the edges to blend it and put seatcover back on. you have to trim off the excess of the seatcover with a razor blad when your done. real easy job to do.
I agree with trimming the seat if you will only need a small amount. When I built my 400ex for mx it was lowered all around but I also went & trimmed the seat. It took a while to get it just the way I wanted but it was damn comphy when I was done. Nice bike!
ya, there really isnt a way to shorten the bike w/o effecting performance. ktms usually need to run more sag than a japenese bike, but that isnt gonna make the bike sit dramatically lower. seat foam is a good way.
I heard of a few people loosening up the triple clamp and moving it down the forks to drop the front end. I don’t know if I want to do this.
I have never had a pair of boots, do they let your ankle move? If not, I will need to do something. But if I just wear my hiking boots, I can manage. I would only need a drop of 1-2 inches at most, I think.
The seller gave me 4 quarts of premix oil but what ratio do I run and do I have to mix it with premium or will cheap gas work?
Can I mix up 10 gallons and use it over a few months or do you need to mix right before using it?
I am a complete dumbass when it comes to bikes, and even more with 2 strokes.
you can change the sag in the rear and run the forks up higher, but it is gonna effect performance. you should be adjusting those things to get the bike to handle the way you want, not to lower it for ride-height comfort. there is a balance that needs to be had between the front and rear suspension and a change like that to 1 side will effect the other. start from stock setting and tweak from there. also, when ppl say to slide the forks up, that is a matter of millimeters that alters the handling of a bike, so how much is that really gonna make it lower for you…see what i mean? not enough to make a big difference. same goes for sag in the rear. do the seat and ge the suspension dialed.
run the ratio at 32:1, doesnt matter how much you mix up at a time. id say 10gal is a little much cause you dont want the gas sittin around and gettin old. mabe do 5 gal at a time.
I am going out this weekend to get a helmet goggles and boots (unless someone on here has an extra set they want to sell ) I will see how it fits once I have some seat time in. I only sat on it a few times and have drove it about 35 seconds.
The guy I bought it off of said he runs a 50:1 mix. Is that not enough oil to properly lubricate things inside a 2 stroke?
i may have some boots id sell you cheap (in good shape) but my friend is borrowing them for the moment. i have helmets, but i dont know if i want to sell them right now either. lol.
i was never a fan of 50:1. it CAN be done, but i dont like it. most i ran was Bel-Ray MC1 at 40:1 in my YZ250 and Suzuki LT250R. but i think 32:1 is always the safe bet. id say that if you go to 32:1 with a full synthetic, then you may have to tweak the jetting, if he is running at 50:1
no shit but once he sets the sag it could end up being right where he needs it as far as height without trimming the seat. I dont think ol Maxi is a particularly short guy but i know he’s not fat. If the previous owner was a fat fuck then it may not be sagging enough. Definitely something that should be checked before you go ripping the seat apart to cut the foam.
I am 5’10" and about 190 lbs. right now. The previous owner was maybe a little taller than be but probably did not weigh as much as me, he was pretty thin.
I am going to piss my neighbors off when I get home from work and get some seat time in the yard.
I think the oil he gave me was mobil 1 premix but I will post up the actual stuff once I get home
The oil is Mobil 1 full synthetic 2 stroke oil.
My only experience on a dirt bike has been my kids 50 and 90 but holy hell is this bike quick. I don’t think I even got into the powerband of the motor and it felt real fast. I hope I can get used to the speed pretty quick, but I ain’t exactly young anymore.
I got it for $1500. It came with 2 extra seats, a new set of plastic, a complete set of new bearings, 4 quarts of 2 stroke oil, service manual, extra flywheel weight, and receipts for everything done to the bike since it was new.
I had a chance to get a 1995 300 exc for $800 but it needed a top end and a few other parts. I heard they overheat while riding slow so I passed on it. :dunno:
