Playing with the new camera

Just picked up a D40 and here are my first pictures with a tripod. Photo experts please chime in and give me tips!! S2000 belongs to my friend. The miata is my autox/track toy. The R6 was just recently sold :-\

i like the second one the most but thats cause i like b&w pics

p.s. http://www.buffalofstop.com

Def a fan of the second photo. Plus its a nice s2k.

I’m pumped you are rocking the shit out of that miata.
People see it and fucking call me…
Ha.

Looks good.

minglor, I feel like we have doppelgangers out there. That S2000 even has the same decal on the wind diffuser and the enkis I was going to buy.

nice pics

Pretty good pics for beginner level. There is a TON of detail missing in the darker spots of the pictures though.

What mode was the camera in?
What metering mode were you using?

OT is it really that simple to make black and white photos on a Nikon D40??? do you have to edit the pic on a PC or is there a setting on the camera?

Nice rides

I love the hell out of it when people use this word!

waaaaaaay too much saturation.

I added contrast to the pictures because I like it lol. The s2k was DIRTY and adding contrast made it SUPER clean. The camera was in A mode. I’ll check on the metering.

I added some saturation to the some of the pictures to bring out the colors of the blue for the r6 and red of the sparcos. I still don’t know what’s too much or too little saturation yet. Some help?

For the b/w photos, all I did was use desaturate in photoshop. I normally don’t like using b/w but some pictures look nicer in b/w than others. I don’t know until I actually desat them in photoshop.

And the miata… needs a new tranny and something’s up with the rear diff. Minglor I say you help me work on the car, and I’ll let you race it on trackdays. Deal?

For those shots, I would recommend using Matrix Metering, and with the Nikon you will probably have to dial in a little bit of exposure compensation. They tend to come out a little dark on the Nikon.

You have a wide range of lighting in your pictures, so there will definitely end up being some washed out and underexposed areas, just trying to help you minimize that.

not sure on the nikon but i know on my sony theres a setting for it, most cameras have the setting so im guessing the nikon does as well (paging IanK the nikon whore). You can also do it on the computer though, photoshop, lightroom, and even the stupid editor photobucket has gives you the option to change the color picture into black and white.

Looks Great, you gotta love those Nikon Cameras.

New trans is easy as pie.
I had the transmission out of that car a few times.
I think I remember telling you it was one of the few drivetrain components original to the car

The diff tho, that was something I replaced and expected to hold up being a 1.8 dif.
The mounts just shot?
I don’t mind helping you out at all, just shoot me a pm.

I just changed the tranny fluid and I saw some small chunks of metal so I figure its time to replace the tranny since the shift action is not as smooth as my old miata.

I ordered new diff mounts, hopefully they will eliminate that wheel hop. But the diff mounts on there right now look fine :gotme:
