nope, you can easily swap in any laptop drive, i’ve heard it done plenty of times already… sony let alot open with this console, like letting it be able to read MPEG videos and such, plus a whole bunch more of formats… im able to easily convert videos and toss them on the PS3, i’ve got posimadness 5, cars, transporter 2, Italian job, dead mans chest, the goonies, and others already on my drive.
What format is it to work in the PS3? Does it convert it in the console or do you have to set it up in a PC first?
set it up in the pc first, it plays mpg, mpeg-2 mpeg-4 and a bunch more i cant remember
Sweet. Xbox is stuck at 20gb ATM unless you find a rare 80gb dev unit floating around eBay once in awhile. But Xbox can stream a bunch of formats from a PC. So you don’t really need the storage space directly on it. You just need to store it all on a PC HD. Can you play media from a USB or flash card from the PS3?
yep, i went out last week and got a 2gb flash card, thats how i transfer movies and such.
theres 4 USB ports, the controllers charge on them
whats the saying…opinions are like assholes
blueray outselling HD-DVD 3:1
Didn’t they say CD’s wouldn’t catch on too? Somethin like that…
i def see blu ray kickin ass in the race…
theres hardly any good HD DVD movies out, they all come to bluray
shelby…
have you played sonic?
all the reviews i read were bad, but i always liked the sonic games.
blu ray isn’t quite outselling 3:1 but is up there… at least HD movies are taking off… HD DVD does not have quite the selection of blu ray yet either… i did notice that the pRon industry is releaseing on HD (hd-dvd), but they say it will have minimum impact.
anyway… the benefit of the xbox is that it’s not a built in drive… so microsoft can easily release a blu-ray player for the xbox as well… (good planning)… i read an article and actually talked to a M$ employee that happened to be on the architechure team for the release of the HD series and he had said that microsoft didn’t care one way or another about sales… they are moving into a video dispersment of HD movies (read: they will sell/rent you movies over the internet)… so who knows where it will all be in the future…
i played the new sonic… it’s bomb and i plan on copying… i mean renting it tonight.
yeah i thought it should be decent…but i read 3 reviews & they all trashed it bad…bad camera angles, long load time , glitchy grafics…
Reguarding the renting/buying movies online: Microsoft already does this. With Xbox Live they have about 80 movies or so you can buy with gamer points and download. They also have an ass load of TV shows ranging from nickelodeon cartoons, to CSI shows, to even old beavis and butthead episodes. Alot of the stuff is 480p but quite a few of the newer movies are in HD. (not HD-DVD quality I imagine) They even have it setup for music videos and viral videos and other misc freebies. Flat out - they have a lot of shit on Xbox Live that is not even related to gaming - but entertainment in general. Not to mention that the HD-DVD drive is USB and has been setup to work on a PC and ‘hacked’ to be able to rip an HD disk to a hard drive. That alone boosted sales pretty big around christmas time to people who don’t even own a 360. It was a very inexpensive HD drive for a PC.
But I have yet to see PS3 or Wii’s online stuff. I only have played my 360.
PS3 has that too in the PSnetwork
free demos, games you can pay to download, PSP stuff, PS1 games, etc…
ive heard its decent especailly for only being live for a short time…i’m sure it will get better over time
my girlfriend want me to buy it soooo bad…
i hear bad reveiws
NEW YORK (AP) - After months of rumors and anticipation, Sony Corp. is slashing the price of the PlayStation 3 by $100 in hopes of boosting sales of the console ahead of the important holiday season.
Sony Corp. said Tuesday it will cut the price of the currently available 80 gigabyte PlayStation 3 effective immediately, to $299. It is also launching a slimmer, lighter model with a 120 GB hard drive in early September; that version will also cost $299.
Sony also cut the price of its existing 160 GB PlayStation 3 by $100, to $399. All price cuts apply worldwide.
Sales of the PlayStation 3, which launched in 2006 and cost as much as $600 at the time, have fallen behind rival consoles. Last week, market researcher NPD Group said U.S. retail stores sold about 122,000 units of the console in July, compared with nearly 203,000 for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox 360 and more than 252,000 for the Nintendo Co.’s Wii.
Video game software makers hope Sony’s price cut will boost game sales ahead of the holidays. So far this year, the industry has suffered from weak sales because of the recession and lackluster game release schedules, which have kept consumers waiting to spend money on new titles.
Jack Tretton, president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America, said there is no question the consumer reaction to the cuts will be “phenomenal.”
Customers, he said in an interview, “absolutely believe that it’s the technologically superior device. (They) absolutely want one but have had trouble justifying the price.”
The Wii has cost $250 since its 2006 launch, while Xbox 360 prices, following a series of reductions, range from $200 for a simple version with no hard drive to $400 for the “Elite” version that comes bundled with games. The basic PS3 model remains more expensive than the cheapest versions of its counterparts.
Console sales for the rest of the year will have to be strong, if not phenomenal, for the video game industry to end 2009 on a high note. Year-to-date, overall sales are down 14 percent in the U.S., according to the NPD Group.
Still, analysts anticipate the business will pick up for the holidays, because many hit game launches are planned for the fall.
The PlayStation price cut will also help, as would cuts from the other console makers. Analysts also expect Nintendo to bring down the price of the Wii, though it might be in the way of keeping the price tag at $250 but throwing in more free games.
Tretton compared the spring and summer to the NFL preseason when it comes to video game sales, in that “no one pays attention and no one keeps score.”
The PlayStation 3 price cut has been highly anticipated. On Tuesday morning, at least two retailers - Sears and Kmart - seemed to jump the gun on Sony and posted the new prices on their Web sites.
Sony did not cut the price of its handheld gaming system, the PlayStation Portable. It did, however, announce it is adding a digital reader service that will allow PSP owners to download comics - including content from Marvel Entertainment’s Spider-Man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four - beginning in December.
Nintendo Co. had no comment on Sony’s or its expected price cut and a representative for Microsoft Corp.’s Xbox division did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
their also putting the new PS3 slim the first week of sept
I’ll stick with my 360
