I know this might be asking a lot…but I am up for an Award this year for my Restoration of the “Hambly House” in Hamilton Ontario It`s one of the Last Art Moderne (1939) houses left up here.
I would really appreciate it anyone could vote for the house on the City of Hamiltons website here:
Moderne is one of my most favoured art styles of the early 1900’s.
I’m actually doing a few assignments now where I’ve chosen to use that style alongside a premature Art Deco mixture.
There wasn’t a GC or Architect.
I was both the Heritage Consultant and the guy who did all the Window restorations on the place. It’s been a looong year working on that house.
Nope. lol. You have the same guy. I used to be a Nissan guy way back in the day (before the old Vital Motion) and a good chunk of my friends are 240 folks
Thanks for the votes everybody! Just got an email that it closes Oct 10th!
Is Art Moderne another name for Art Deco? It looks Art Deco. In my opinion everything in art and design peaked in that period and it’s been downhill ever since.
We have two great examples of the style here in Buffalo, just on a bigger scale. We don’t have many houses in our area from that era.
You’ve probably seen Buffalo City Hall if you’re from Hamilton, but have you ever seen the Buffalo Central Terminal?
Art Moderne is Late-Period Art Deco. Early Art Deco was all Vertically oriented. All the spires and overall look went Up. Art Moderne changed and everything went Horizontal. It is basically the very first start of the whole “Streamline” style that happened in the 1950’s after the war.
You can see the last of the Art Deco in the door surround. It all goes up!
I have seen the city hall…but never the central terminal! that’s really awesome!
