Pondering My Tire Purchase

My car is just about due for inspection and its in dyre need of tires to pass. The current rubber is, Nitto 555R’s. …and we all know how quickly they wear.
So, I’ve come up with two possible solutions to help keep money in my pocket to later be spent on the lovely high gas prices.
The solutions/ideas/whatever I’ve came up with are…

  1. Buy a pair of Nitto 450’s to match the rears, and the buy a cheap pair of 15" rims and get a pair of slicks for the track.

  2. Buy another pair of drag radials, either it be another pair of Nitto’s, MT d.r., or similiar.

Now the kicker…I drive the car as much as I can and do some fun stop light “sprints” from time to time. So, from one car enthusiest to another(s), what do you guys recommend?

Thanks.

On my Mustang with a 245/45/17 Nitto DR I didn’t notice a large enough difference in stoplight performance to offset the sacrifices of severely limited tread life. I went back to a street radial and haven’t missed the DR’s at all.

just run QTPs like everyone else is doing.

I hated Nitto 555’s.
BfGoodfich, Falkens and Kumhos were pretty damn good.

Thats EXACTLY what I was thinking…I’d even try to air them down to like 20-25 on the street but, driving above 55 made the front end feel unstable.

I think a pair of Nitto 450’s are in store…then the slicks for da traction.
