don’t do that in a company… piracy is BS when a company can just pay for licensing…

the solution to your problem is not scanning for ‘pests’ (albeit if this is the case, i would suggest getting a copy of pest patrol… it > lavasoft)… the issue is replicating files in your profile, that when on an active internet connection, pull down ads. the problem with pest patrol, adaware, aunt sally’s ad blocker is that when they see these active files pointing to the interweb, they just delete them… however the files simply replicate and start all over… you WILL NOT remove these files with general scanning software. the true way to get rid of them is to flush and recreate your ‘profile’… granted you should not be doing this, as should your IS dept. It’s simple to do and will result with less garbage. people that make these files that pull in ads know whats up… they register their files on your OS and anytime your username logs in it kicks them off, whether as a service or underlying active file. NOW you can install your updates /virus defs and pop up blockers to stop stuff from getting in…

you won’t… it’s all BS IMO… granted some ‘ads’ / ‘pests’ are solely created for IE / windows… but the margian is minimal.

just think of ad scanning / pop up blocking as a condom, not the abortion!!!

This is what our PC Support group recommends at this time.

As far as the XP machine goes… do you ever have to call IS and ask them to load something because “you are not authorized”. If you have… then your IS group has your machine locked down and you are not the administrator. If they have it locked down they are more than likely controlling the software remotely… using SMS or some other app. You may not be able to keep any downloaded software onit. If that is the case… call IS and bitch… tell all your co-workers to call IS and bitch. When they start getting blasted with calls, they will load what ever you want.

Trust me… I’m on the helpdesk… hahahaha
