running google and panicware, which seems to work, but the free panicware disappears every two weeks. its really annoying b.c all the software we run at work keeps us constantly connected so even when ie is down i’m getting ads.
i tried kewlbar but as soon as i installed it i got an ad… :kekegay: this sux, any suggestions would help me greatly
best bet is to just get rid of the garbage causing the ads to popup.
if it’s a work computer, call IS and bitch… @ home i would just suggest disabling the NIC when you aren’t on the computer and to properly firewall ANY computer on teh interweb
IS is here… Go to this website to download free pop up blocker from Panic ware. http://www.panicware.com/product_psfree.html
If you have an XP machine, that could be why it is uninstalling. Your IS may be removing it for you.
The other thing to do is download adaware. http://www.lavasoft.de/ go to this website and follow the prompts for Ad aware personal. It is free. You are going to want to run this about 1 time per week until you start noticing less activity on your machine.
ok, downloading it now. i guess i should learn some of this shit since i spend all day in front of a computer at work. still at work i cant use anything but ie so i guess i’m fucked, unless i can convince boss to just pirate a popupblocker.
Mozilla is a great browser - it automatically blocks pop ups. The thing I love about it is that it has tabbed browsing. A lot of people love firefox to, so either one really. They are broth mozilla products.
don’t do that in a company… piracy is BS when a company can just pay for licensing…
the solution to your problem is not scanning for ‘pests’ (albeit if this is the case, i would suggest getting a copy of pest patrol… it > lavasoft)… the issue is replicating files in your profile, that when on an active internet connection, pull down ads. the problem with pest patrol, adaware, aunt sally’s ad blocker is that when they see these active files pointing to the interweb, they just delete them… however the files simply replicate and start all over… you WILL NOT remove these files with general scanning software. the true way to get rid of them is to flush and recreate your ‘profile’… granted you should not be doing this, as should your IS dept. It’s simple to do and will result with less garbage. people that make these files that pull in ads know whats up… they register their files on your OS and anytime your username logs in it kicks them off, whether as a service or underlying active file. NOW you can install your updates /virus defs and pop up blockers to stop stuff from getting in…
