Possible bad pistons???

Ok, long story short, my timing was off on my ‘98 Hyundai Tiburon. I pulled the head off tonight and found 6 bent valves and some minor damage to the pistons. I took pics of the damage, because I still think the pistons are salvagable. My car has 104k on it and right now I just want to be able to drive it to work and back, no extreme mods or racing. I know I either have to replace the head or rebuild it, but I want to be able to not replace any of the bottom end as of now. By looking at the pics, does anyone know if the little damage will be a major problem?? The small radius’ on the pistons where the valves hit are very smooth, no sharp points, so I don’t think there will be chance of hot spots and detonation. Opinons on whether they are still good or not???

rotate the motor by hand and inspect the cylinder walls for any kinda scratches from the bent valve. any thing that catches your finger nail is bad depending on how bad. On to part 2, where the valves chewed up the piston, rotate that cylinder to TDC and tape it off around the piston so that no shaveings escape. file down the high spots so that nothing will hit the valve again.

blow it out with air.

repeat steps and be carefull. Remember that after new valves are installed you will need to adjust your valve lash if it applys to your motor.

From the looks of the picture i dont think you will have to file down the pistons. But thats for you to judge.

^^sounds good to me, all the walls are smooth which is good. They markings on the pistons aren’t to high, so they file should get rid of them pretty easily. Big thanks!!!

So I decided I would do a little buildup while the car was out of commision.
