i have an 01 jetta 1.8t engine code [aww] timing belt jumped. There are some pretty good digs on top of my pistons, intake valves bent on all 4 .looking for some advice .new head or new motor.
valves will need to be replaced. depending how bad the pistons are,you could just clean them up and still use them. ive seen someone skip timing and make 20 impressions on the pistons, just cleaned and re used, but tis tough to say without seeing it
Reusing pistons with any sort of noticeable valve impact marks is not good, doubly true for a turbocharged motor. Valve detents create preignition-prone areas and massaging them out changes the CC’s of the combustion chamber. Better to start fresh and good than repair and install a mutt of a motor, especially if you’re going to keep and drive the car.
ive got some OEM 19mm pistons(from AWP motor) with like 28k on them. ill give you a good deal as ill never use them, rods are attatched, all youll need is new bearings and rings.
Just poped the head off , center valves are wasted…pistons are badly damaged, ordering a new motor today.thanks for your support.and ideas.
I am really sorry. That’s horrid especially when it’s not your fault. In your case, you have to rip it down to see the damage, even if the pistons were lightly tapped, I’d still replace. The labor/time/anger to redo it is just not worth it.
