Possibly buying New HTC Evo 4g.... other phone? questions

Ok, i was toying with the idea of upgrading, ive been out of contract for close to 2 years now…

I have sprint, 1400 minutes, unlimited data, text, tether (mobile wifi to my laptop), insurance, nights at 7 and unlimited free mobile to 3 numbers, my bill is roughly $52 a month after taxes…

I was going to switch to the new iphone, or maybe a verizon blackberry when I next decided to switch plans, but I cant see myself paying 3x the amount for a comparable plan.

Sooo, is there anyway around this? Most likely i’m going to be buying the new EVO 4g which will bring my bill up to around 60 a month for all the same stuff…

Other than “its sprint, what more reason do you need?” what would compel you to switch? and what other phones would you be looking at? To be honest, the service I’ve had lately has been great, no issues there, and although when i have problems with the phone/service, customer service has yet to not make it right, (Minus the fact that it normally takes 4 twenty minute phone calls)

Is the new evo 4g going to be the next Palm pre? or will it actually compete with the new iphone?

Thanks for the heads up/insight… (if i switched services, id have to go unlimited everything btw, im on my phone far to often to worry about overages)

i heard that a data plan for the 4g is going to be an extra $10 on top of the 39.99 data plan cause of the wimax, dont know if you knew that but the evo is going to be a beast

I’m aware, but i get a 25% discount, so its really only 7.50 more than what im paying… hence the 60 dollars a month compelling argument to stick with sprint…

Right now i have a touch diamond, and i barely get through my work day without having to charge it… I hope the EVO isnt the same way.

any other insight about why i should or shouldnt make the move?

the evo is supposed to be awesome. just go read the specs…and finally…supports flash.

iim going to pre order it this week.

as for the plan…if you get the evo or any other android phone…the cheapest plan starts at $69.99. As for the $10 fee…ive heard both that you will have to pay, and others have said you may not have to if 4G is not available in your area.

i figured in paying the $10. so with that, my $69 plan, $7 for ins, $15 roughly in taxes, and with my 25% discount…im looking at between $75-$78 a month.

Im on a fair/flexible 1250 with 90 bonus minutes… ill just stick where i am…

should be 60 or less a month…

I cant seem to fathom paying 130 a month for a cell phone.

EVO supports flash? Full Flash 10.1? That’s news to me

Flash wont be supported until froyo, that should be announced at their conference this week… As for your data plan willybeen if you are paying that now you should ask sprint about a new phone on the same contract. I don’t see why you would need to upgrade your plan if you already have a smart phone with data working on it. The 4g price bump may not be true since so few places can actually use it. Maybe there will be an option to leave it off.

^ i heard it DOESNT support flash… thats what ive been reading.

That’s what I thought, we’re waiting on Android 2.2

hmmm i really want to upgrade from my tp2 but i dont think i can justify $75-80/month for the same shitty service i get right now. after my govt discount i would pay between $80-85 for an iphone… i guess ill have to wait and check out this evo everyone is ranting about… i just HATE the windows mobile on my tp2 so android or iphone would be a big improvement…

I use my phone far to often to not have unlimited…

i’ll be very tempted to get a blackberry if the battery on these new phones sucks as bad as what im used to

as posted on ppc geeks this pretty much sums up my logic…

So, these threads about the extra $10/mo being soooo terrible are getting out of hand. I’ve decided to go out and do a comparison vs other carriers for similar plans as the $69.99 Sprint plan to see how it stacks up. Note: Although similar, NONE of these plans from other carriers offer as much as the Sprint plan does.

Sprint (EVO):
$69.99 + $10 Premium Data = $79.99
450 minutes and free m2m
N&W starting at 7pm
Unlimited Data & Text

Verizon (Droid/Incredible):
$59.99 Talk & Text + $29.99 Data = $89.98
450 minutes and free m2m for 5 numbers only
N&W starting at 9pm
Unlimited Data & Text

AT&T (iPhone 3GS):
$39.99 + $30 Data + $20 Text = $89.99
450 minutes w/ Rollover
N&W starting at 9pm
Unlimited Data & Text

T-Mobile (G1/MyTouch):
$79.99
500 minutes
N&W at 9pm
Unlimited Data & Text

This is obviously for people who are threatening to leave Sprint for another carrier because of this stupid $10 fee. Yes, it sucks, but come on…are you really willing to go to another carrier and pay $20 more instead of $10 more (exception: T-Mobile) and get LESS stuff?

Not to mention the fact that you can easily get monthly discounts with Sprint’s service as there are links all over the web that show you how to do it (25% is common).

You also get UNCAPPED 3G and 4G with this $10, which I think is actually a great thing a lot of people aren’t thinking about. I know, 5GB is a lot in one month (current cap) with 3G, but it’s not impossible to hit, and with 4G, that’ll be easy as hell since I know most of us will be downloading obscenely large files on it.

hmmm…i could be wrong…i thought it supported some sort of flash…but not full flash…who knows.

walker…ill prob be selling my HTC Hero if ur interested lol

didnt think it was SERO compatible…

I guess we’ll wait and see… i hope better specs are listed shortly… ughh

lol naw its not…but im only paying $12 more a month than i was on my sero

if you use your phone a lot i would expect that your battery on the evo would not last long like most other smartphones, the big killer is the screen obviously. my droid barely makes it through they day without a little charge here and there

i bought a spare 2000mah battery for my hero a while back…and the upside…its the same battery used for the evo, so at least ill still have a spare…anticipating that the evo will drain the battery even faster than the hero

how did the hero’s battery last on a day of moderate use?

just ordered the seidio extended battery for the incredible

i have had the battery last 24-36 hours depending on the use.
