I will start us out here is my little beater… its a 90 civic hatch i picked up for 500 bucks and it past saftey, i threw a coat of tremclad on it and JDM’d it all out haha…
The NX is my beater but it doesn’t get driven much.
The Altima is my total BEATER.
That poor thing, it sees redline everyday…
Did I mention it’s motor blew at 40,000km?
That’s back when I stilled cared about it…
Before the following problems:
Stereo Head Unit replaced twice
MAF Died
Motor Blew (pre-cat died and got sucked into motor, blew all 6 piston rings)
ABS Sensor Died
ABS Computer
Fuel pump Relay
Anti-Theft chips died
It’s already rusting on the roof…
Waiting for the motor it was out of commission for 8 weeks!
I added up all the overnights and my car has been int he shop a total of 100 days in the 2 years I’ve owned it…

What on earth is with the Altima, man?! That’s such garbage! Assuming you do proper oil changes/maint. etc, what a pain! RedLINE everyday should not do that to any motor (ie. if you remove the limiter and hang out in the red, your bad).

I just picked up a sweet beater!! It’s an '87 Suzuki Forsa 3 banger. I got it for $350 certified but failed the etest. I changed the oil, put a full set of 3 plugs in it and beat the living carbon out of it. After all that, she was clean as a whistle. The thing has less rust then probably 90% of the cars in this club and a mint interior too. Too bad its ugly as sin. I am hoping to make some cash from it in the spring time when gas prices are sky high.
I am getting 55 mi/gallon now, its great, I just have to tint the windows Very… very dark!

er, winter beater? i’m skipping the driving during the winter and moved to a loft downtown close to work. saves alot of money not having to drive into town everyday too, which will all likely go to car next spring anyways.

It’s the first of the chasis and motor. You wouldn’t have the problems or recalls if you waited. 2002 is the worst year altima you can buy. I can’t remember how bad 2003 was but if anyone wants one but a 2004 or the sexier 2005. The newest biggest thing now is the murano tranny :roll: . dumb things keep blowing. It’s a belt driving tranny, use 2 gears and they change size to create the different ratios. So of like a 18 speed bike etc. No question on the tranny that all i no about em cause all we do is pull em out and send em back. We are not allowed to crack em open and rebuild like all the other trannys. But yah stop beating the piss out of that altima, your giving use shitty warrenty jobs that don’t pay us shit all. Working for free sucks. That cat will just discinergate again, from getting to hot, and nissan isn’t the only one with this problem, my buddy at toyota says they having the same problem. especally with the 6-speed celica.
