The wife and I have been looking for a new house for quite a while, and there’s only 1 every 3-4 months that we seriously consider (and they sell in days)… We found one we like but it doesn’t have her dream kitchen (not my first choice either, but still a very nice kitchen). If we purchased this house we wouldn’t be in a position to redo a perfectly good kitchen, esp considering we’d want to add a pool sooner than later.
Question is, if I have dark wood cabinets, can they be professionally refinished to an off-white (and possibly some glazing), so they look like they were intended to be white and not just cheaply painted over with brush strokes and the such? Does anybody have any experience with this? And guesstimates on price? Much thanks
the kits they sell for this are actually pretty good and easy (just time). It really comes down to how good of quality the cabinets are. If they are nice then a pro-refinish makes sense, but don’t do it to some cheap builder grade stuff. use the kit for that.
Thanks guys. I’m actually leaning towards (if we pursue the house), having the cabinet cases sprayed and buying all new doors. The current doors are pretty boring. I’m thinking it’d be a $5k project. Better than 30 I guess.
It can be done. I have a pretty decent paint sprayer you can use for it if you would like. I used it to prime and paint some custom furniture I built for a hall closet built in and it came out amazing.
Thanks, though I’d probably pay someone to do it. I don’t have the patience or expertise, and would be pissed at every little blemish I created. I think buying new doors that are already finished would save a bunch of time and frustration as well. This is what it looks like at the moment:
There is some faggot behind my house that re faces cabinets and makes custom cabinets. He’s a cock lord though and can fuck off and die for all I care. Shea’s Kitchen Cabinets in Eden. Faggot is STILL crying about the picket fence I put up 12 years ago and didn’t ask his approval…fuck off you drunken Irish piece of shit
I’m sorry, was there some information about cabinets woven in there?1242

I’d you do decide to go new doors and drawer fronts, there’s a company called Walzcraft who will make and ship new ones in virtually and species and style you can imagine. Google them.
Not sure about refinishing but I imagine with a pro it is possible to do right. However don’t rule out refacing; if the cabinets are in good shape then refacing would be a good option. The previous owners of my place had Custom Interiors do mine back in 2002 and they have held up well; though it is annoying that they had the doors/drawers done in Thermafoil and the refacing that goes to the cabinet itself is real painted wood so up close you can tell the difference.
