Where to get kitchen cabinets?

Ok, in the next few months we should be closing on a house and looking to redo the kitchen. We are looking for white cabinets. The kitchen is pretty simple. There is a straight shot on one side ,and an L on hte other. About 12-14 feet for the long sides.

Where should I be looking to get a deal on cabinets. I’m in Rochester, but I’d travel for the right deal.

check out scott perry auctions … once a month they auction alot of niagara cabinets supply … very high quality stuff and as long as theres not too many shitbags there to drive the price up thinking this place will never auction any more off … then you can get a smokin deal …

they also have granite counters

I still swear by Ikea. I’ve installed them in my house and am still impressed with them. Have also installed Lowes ‘in stock’ basic units, same price as Ikea and MUCH lesser quality. My parents just spent ~$10k on custom built units and I wasn’t really blown away with them compared to Ikea.

Benefits to Ikea: incredibly easy to hang (due some quick research on this and you’ll see what I mean, I hung mine solo). Anti slam hardware for drawers and doors works great. Door fronts are interchangeable should you ever want to change up the look.

Nearest store is in Burlington, only 1 hour away.

+1 for Ikea. I have them in my rental and spent only $5K.

Cabinets-to-go is a good cheap option too.

Grossman’s or Mr2nds has decent cabinets that you have to assemble. We bought a handful of the shaker oak. Far from top notch, they’re made of wood & plywood, not cardboard, and for the pricepoint, you can’t buy unfinished for the $$.

They also sell semi-custom cabinets that are actually really decent quality. The price starts to climb rapidly in that option due to the higher quality.

Or make a trip to Ohio for the KraftMaid warehouse; I believe there was some discussion on here about this at one time.

I did a complete remodel in my kitchen a few years ago. The ikea cabinets were incredibly simple to work with. Easy to assemble, and had far better features at the price point than anything else I could find locally. I think mine were around $4K and the comparable cabinets elsewhere were $6k-10K depending on the store.

The only downside is the Burlington store may not have everything in stock depending on the cabinets you choose(meaning you might have to go to one of the other store in the GTA to complete your order), and the exchange rate kind of sucks. I fit everything in my Jeep Liberty in 2 trips.

If I were redoing my kitchen, I would either do Ikea or do the Kraftmaid Warehouse outlet sale.

The kraftmaid can be hit or miss but you can score some excellent cabinets that would typically cost you a small fortune. http://cabinetwarehouseoutlet.com/ he sells a guide on ebay and he is also willing for a fee to do the shopping for you.

Ikea i think are great they are reasonably priced and have a great build quality, they are very customizable appearance wise, plus things like soft close doors and drawers are easy to add. From what I have read (quite extensively) they are easy to work with too. Go to flickr and search ikea kitchen, you can see lots of peoples kitchens that look outstanding.

I’m surprised that more people aren’t interested in using Cabinets-To-Go. They are pre-finished, assemble yourself cabinets much like Ikea, and they come in a variety of styles.

I had never even heard of ikea cabinets until now. Pretty interesting.

^ yeah you did…you hated mine.

I love them. Great pricing, especially for a rental. Great warranty. Great Value. AND, if i want to update them in a few years, i just need to by new face panels.

^ Haha, forgot yours were Ikea. I’m just not a fan of the modern color choices. That’s a personal taste thing though. I know you’ve got pretty high standards when it comes to fit/finish so that’s a big endorsement.

EDIT:
In my defense, no one brought up Ikea until after I posted.

haha…i don’t care. And the somebody with a $1M+ Salary who’s renting it out doesn’t care either! I only say that because he has a nice high-end home and his standards are likely higher with expendable income eventhough he’s only renting as a 2nd home. It’s just that your “class A office space” comment has stuck with me. all good.

How bad are the existing ones? Have you thought of refinishing/repainting them? I just did that in my rental and they turned out great ,alot of labor but for under $200 it was well worth it and changed the whoile look of the kitchen.

That is the nice thing about Ikea you can go contemporary/modern or more traditional look.

Accel Sash & Door on broadway sell kitchen stuff.

Can’t refinish the current ones because we will be adding more cabinets and taking out a wall. The current ones will probably move to the garage or basement when the time comes.

So what’s the charge at US Customs coming back with 4k in cabinets? Pretty clueless on import tariffs since I never buy anything in Canada.
