Where to get kitchen cabinets?

So long as it’s for your own home, nothing. Anything purchased at Ikea is considered “furniture”, and isn’t subject to an import duty. I called twice to verify.

I only had a problem on the second trip, some young guy in a bad mood and we played 20 questions. First guy, asked what I had just looked in the back, and said have a a nice day.

With how shitty the exchange rate currently is, and the difference in pricing from the US to Canada, it might actually be cheaper to pick them up from Pittsburgh now.

I think if you are to go the ikea route, you should go to Pittsburg, you can pay in USD and less taxes, I think it would rule out the extra hour drive time.

I’ll be re-doing all the windows in the house as well as 2 bathrooms before I do the kitchen so by the time I’m ready to do the kitchen I’m assuming a new president will have brought the US dollar back up. :stuck_out_tongue:

paging jeller/xander…

Paging me.

You get what you pay for.

Yours looked good because of how you designed the entire kitchen. i would expect anyone else purchasing them to buy a pine or white, have a terrible looking laminate countertop with a blacksplash, and no tile lol.

also, you can buy new face panels for pretty much any cabinet now. you’re just going to pay more for it depending on brand.
and you will notice a very large quality difference between soft close doors and drawers. You can have ikea cabinets, but what makes the kitchen is the how all the colors go together, and the trim/tile work.

I picked mine up in Pittsburgh. The exchange rate i so much worse because the prices are higher in canada. I think it would have been about 12-15% more expensive to get the same cabinets in Canada as it was in Pittsburgh. So, for about $700 in savings, i drove a couple extra hours and with out the risk of taking forever at the border.

 thanks for the info.

As for windows, I’m going Gorell and installing them myself.

all true.

Another very nice thing about Ikea…there are TONS of accessories for the cabinets/drawers that work and fit perfectly. Most of the time, their designs are very innovative, creative, and inexpensive.
