Updates>>

The Duramix 40/40 works great, working time is short and there is no friggin’ around once you lay that epoxy down, get it on or prepare for a massive cleanup effort! I orginally bought the 3M multi-purpose 2stage epoxy but their rental gun was out for a week, try to find another one in all of Calgary - Good luck! I tried to buy on but its more than $300 for the 3M where as the Duramix can be found for under $130, the Epoxy is also cheaper, $40 compared to $60, with only a 20mL differnence. I found a shop that didnt rent them but let me buy it and return it after using it for the weekend, only charging me $5- for the usage.

For future work I would also shop around for an alternate to the seam sealer I used, it doesnt sand worth a shit, although using a solvent soaked rag works almost as well.

The Flex Fill primer seems very good used in conjunction with the adhesion promote.

The only one who will spend as much time in the garage with me on this project!!

Aaaaaaah its looking “Super White” again!! First coat, I have a couple bad spots to fix, too much paint when I started spraying left 1 run and some rough spots… It was a little dark in the shop this morning so my pics are not the greatest, the money shots will be in the sun when I can pull it out

Getting there!!!

Are u painting it yourself??

Holy crap, that is a lot of work. Good job.

Haha, and your dog is cute. Sorry, but I had no other way to say that without sounding homo. hah.

You bet…

I would consider this go around my practice run. There will certainly be a re-work over winter and a re-paint in the spring. I had to overlook a couple of areas that needed additional work due to lack of time.

All I can say is I am glad its white, it sure hides a lot!!!

Tell me man, I can’t believe how many hours it took me for the body kit alone!!!

I havent tracked my time but I have been drinking Tequila everytime I work on it and I am starting my fourth 26’er tonight for the final coats…( I’ll be sure to include the empty bottles in my final product/supply summary…lol)

Yeah she’s cute until its gopher killing time, she loves to hunt and is a killing machine!! Its awsome to watch.

haha… dogs are great. My little shih-tzu loves to supervise all household projects. Though I tend to keep him out of my garage due to the various hazards in there.

Is anyone a keener on adjusting HVLP guns? I am seeing a little orange peel and I am not sure if its air, paint flow or reducer related. The web is full of info but it all seems very general.

Last coats are going on tonight!!! :partyman:

Last coat my A$$ …I have sprayed three time since that last update…

uuuuug, power failure on the last spray left me with runs everywhere!!

Re-sanded/Re-sprayed again last night and have it down to one fender and a single run. Man what a love hate relationship I am developing with this project!!!

looking good! are you going to spray it with some kind of clear coat?

I asked a couple paint suppliers about clearcoating over the single stage and both advised against it. They said it would look ok for a while but with the white it would “yellow” within about a year. There is clear built into the enamel I used and it has a nice sheen to it already. I’ll just have to see how durable it is.

Last shots before re-assembly. Things went smooth for the final spray, no runs and only a little orange peel. Its very hard to get a smooth finish on the verticle panels, anything flat seems like a piece of cake now, just slap it on thick and you get a nice glass finish but finiding that point where you put as much paint on as you can before running it all over is super hard!

The real money shots will be when its outside under the sun. White is by far the best color for novice painters, it hides sooooo much!!

I am really diggin’ the wingless look. I was worried that I wouldnt like it but it looks sweet!

http://img169.imageshack.us/img169/4725/p1010886fy0.th.jpghttp://img139.imageshack.us/img139/9449/p1010891sh5.th.jpghttp://img139.imageshack.us/img139/1287/p1010900xm4.th.jpghttp://img139.imageshack.us/img139/8990/p1010897lu9.th.jpg

Never doubt the wingless look … too much crap on a car detracts from the lines. The whole car is looking really good.

Edit (had to fix my “quote” link…)

The true way to judge good body work is by looking at the body gap… and I must say, as it sits right now, this car is amazing.

You’ll notice the “sans” exhaust look, not what I was going for but poor fitment of the crappy minute muffler job the previous owner had done left me to cut and weld the rear section.

I am going to wet sand the whole car I just need to leave it another week or so to make sure the paint has cured well enough. Some of the rough spots just wont polish out!!

WOW man that looks amazing, u have some serious talent. Are u a painter by trade? Very nicely done. Hope when i get my car touched up it looks that nice, but that’ll be hard to do.

thanks, the pics dont do the “bad” justice, the wet sanding will hopefully hide whats left. Nope not a painter, this was my first attempt at a high quality complete job not to mention the first time I ever installed a body kit that wasn’t fender flares on the old GMC 1/2ton…lol

K now im even more impressed.
