10:1 says he was pulling with the insert and jaws both on the pulley…
use a hammer SB style
word… thanks for wasting everyone’s time
i’m with you on this. chrysler’s require the 3 jaw puller with the insert for going into the crankshaft. and to use enough force to break the balancer…something isn’t right. i use a 3/8 impact on mine and have never had an issue.
wait…these dont just pry off?
Try a larger hammer?
Yup, plus on the Neons I’ve worked on, it sometimes looks like the center of the pulley is a different color and actually part of the crank…:roflpicard:
i helped do one of these on a neon before… and it was simple. Also, very obvious as to where the puller had to go… i couldn’t imagine shit being broken if this were being done right.
edit:
i would say how to do it right, but it was so obvious. If you can’t use a puller tool properly you shouldn’t be working on cars.
He just had the wrong puller, there is no other way to mess it up. The OEM puller goes in the crank, and on the 3 indentations on the crank where the puller goes. A three jaw puller he probably didn’t have the rods to do it, so he was prying directly on the crank itself, or with a bolt in the crank not long enough, and the mounting spots for the jaws pulled off part of the crank pulley edge. Very common on neon without using the correct puller.
I cant believe no one has jumped on this-
