Just a few of my thoughts:

NYSpeed is a location based automotive forum.

This being said, it will never be as Automotive focused as many would like, since it will never be specific enough. If I own a RX-7 and need advice - it is much more likely that I will be going to the RX-7 or at least Mazda forums for advice.

NYSpeed is a community of people based out of the Buffalo area who share a common interest - Cars/Driving/Speed/Performance.

I think the direction that this place started to take in the last year is the best way it could go. NYSpeed needs to be (and already is) a community, where anyone can talk about anything, but will cater to the single common interest in many different ways.

That’s only part of it, and I wish you guys could see past the whole “mods should go to meets” aspect for just a sec.

This site keeps gowing, expanding and evolving while the moderators become more distant from the members. The mods have to stay active in the community in order to keep up with the changes. A part of that is going to the meets, but there has to be an effort by the mods to want to be part of the community before there can be any discussion of how else to keep them connected. Some of the mods don’t even post or contribute to this forum on a monthly basis let alone show up at events where the members are.

thats just it. there are multiple communities/groups on this forum. i pretty much will never stand in a parking lot again… unless i am going to an auto-x.

do you want to develop the automotively enthused community that has already exsisted

or do you want to develop a forum that is purely automotive.

The site should reflect its community. For the most part we all have interest in things automotive, but we still want to be able to fool around and have a good time.

I know that some of my favorite times were hanging out with people from UBRF at Bubble Tea. Most of that time wasn’t really related to auto talk, but we still had a blast. Maybe 1/3 of the time we were doing something related, such as cruising, heading out to lancaster/NYIRP/whatever the “show” of the day was…but the rest of the time was just fucking around!

Too much moderation only pushes members away, not draw them in.

I would also like to see less noob bashing people join up here and automatically get flammed and this really hurts our member base. People don’t always fit the model that NYSpeed members seem to demand out of way they mod cars…Get over it everyone started somewhere.

With a larger forum and more anonymity and disconnects between members, it’s obvious things will feel less like home.

I’ll go to buffaloscooby meets, even now I own an Evo, but I dont think I’ll ever even want to make it to an nyspeed event other than a track day because of the mentality here.
