Quad throttle bodies on s13?

I was wodering if there would be any benefit to using quad throttle bodies from the GTI-R? on a S13 SR red top? and what would be involved in doing so? I’ve seen a couple of companies selling quad throttle body setups for the SR20DET, but could’nt find any dyno notes?

There must be (?) benefits or Nissan wouldn’t have done it. Or maybe they found that there were no benefits which is why it never made it to the Silva… probably more likely cost related.

Anyway… I’ve looked at the stock GTI-R TB’s and intake, and while anything is possible, it’s not easily doable in this case. Apparently (means I’m taking someone’s word for it) the intake bolt pattern is different from a “regular” SR20DET. Which would mean adapting it somehow or changing the head. Changing the head isn’t a real option as it’s different in that it has a distributor at what would be the back of the valve cover in a RWD application, plus I think there’s coolant passage differences between the heads.

So suppose you could adapt the intake to the RWD SR head… You then have a problem with the air box being fed from the wrong end. I.e. it would poke through your fire wall. You could turn it around except it’s angled, thinner one end than the other to try to get even air flow, so turning it around becomes a cut and weld option, much like the intake… as I say anything is doable, but is it worth the hassle?

I’ve seen aftermarket independent TB’s on e-bay, in this case I think that would be a better option, but probably pretty $$.

If you can, just get the whole GTIR engine. Very nice piece!! Bigger everything, rods turbo cams, ITBs, it’s a brick shit house. Saw a GTiR run in Trinidad two summers ago. Quick car.

Been a long time since you showed your face

I did find this article on an s14 that uses a GTi-R head and throttle bodies.

You cant see the whole article but you get an ideal.

The GTiR is FWD/AWD platform, so the engine is transversly mounted, not to mention it runs off a distributor system which will need to be capped off. I don’t think it will fit in a RWD car without lots of modification. Don’t even know if the SR bellhousing will mate up with it. However, the internals will fit in RWD SR.

IIRC, the intake manifold on the GTIR faces the opposite direction. You’ll have to weld shut one end, and open up the other end.

I never read the whole post, and just noticed that Martin has already shed his light on the subject. Guess I’m just babbling on about nothing then… :?

Yeah, I’ve been in China for almost 1.5 years. Not many ‘car guys’ here. No car culture at all…which is a good thing.
Anyway, changing the head and all that concerns it as well as the internals if you can get them …would be a great idea. BUT not really needed. The SR is pretty stout as is. Also, you don’t need ITB on a turbo car unless you have gearhead chicks that need impressing. :stuck_out_tongue:

I just want to be original. Ive had my sr motor for about 4 yrs, I just got around to installing it last year due to finances . Now they are a dime a dozen.
