im wondering if any1 can tell me if its possible to put a nissan gtir pular engine on a rwd s13, i heard some say its impossible and some say u would need to turn the engine aroudn and get a rwd sr20det tranny to make it fit , let me know thanks.
Hold on whats the point isnt that engine the front wheel version of the sr?
ya it is but wouldnt a rwd tranny fit when u turn the engine aroudn the other way?
yes… but manifolds and accessory brackets are different, not to mention the pulsar gti-r det has its own unique wiring harness (it doesn’t have coil-on-plug).
alright thx for the tip , im guessing its impossible then , im just thinking what engine i should put in on my silvia rolling chassis and that was oen of my ideas. thx again
It’s definitely not impossible…
it just might be more work than it’s worth.
Yeah for the extra 22 or so hp you will get from the gti-r it isnt really worth it but importing an awd pulsar would be quite cool.
uhm …
How about the fact that the Pulsar’s valvetrain doesn’t involve magnets and divorced rocker arms? Or say … individual TBs? And the GTiR turbo is le sex.
Get the GTiR motor, and buy a broken RWD SR for a couple hundred bucks (or buy the NA rwd motor from an importer for $300) and use the parts you need.
Clutch and flywheel are different, few things here and there, but well worth the trouble.
You sure about that?
Hehehe, now that you mention it … yes.
Solid lifters in GTiR,
Hard to have hydraulic solid lifters
GTiR has mechanical valvetrain. Would seem redundant to make a better, more powerful motor without first taking care of the most obvious problem.
Also has better valvesprings, larger valves, and bigger, stronger headbolts.
Well when you said the GTi-R has no divorced rocker arms I thought you were alluding to the fact that, while other SRs have one lobe driving two valves, the GTi-R is cam-on-bucket.
Are you then saying that the GTi-R sr20det has 8 lobes per camshaft?
whats a GTiR worth anyway??? … forgive the stupid questions I’m new… will it fit in my NX?
Don’t really know to be honest. I know you need different cams Silvia - GTiR, so I would assume so. But the heads are different too, so there might be something else to it. I’ll have to ask Mick nicely to take off his valvecover for me.

I’ve had the pleasure of riding in a few of these, i would buy one in a heart beat. So much fun.
I THINK I read somewhere the rwd engine mounts don’t bolt up to the GTIR block. If you want a fast car that actually drives and doesn’t sit in a shop collecting dust with the rest of your hopes and dreams, keep it simple.
Also the dizzy wouldn’t clear for shit with the fire wall.
So, essentially for the cost of modification to fit, you could upgrade a standard RWD SR20 to well above the advantage level of the GTiR SR? Sounds reasonable to me.
