Question about o2 sensors

Can you clean them? Is there a way to tell if one is bad?

I changed my o2 sensor and i still get a o2 sensor (one) code.

wit a tourch is the best way to clean them, about the only way to get carbon off. Uhm get a new one is about the only way you can tell it is bad.

what’s the code. is it for O2 heater or slow, no response? The only way to check the O2 sensor that I’m aware of is to pull data from the vehicles ECU and watch for the switching voltage.

I get this code:

"1 O2A - Oxygen sensor #1 "

what year is your car?

the ecu is a OBD-1 comes out of a 92-95 civic/integra

the car is a 93 civic si

but its not the orig motor or ecu

I would say it’s probably an O2 heater issue. check for voltage between the yellow/black and orange/black wires w/ the key on. You should have 12volts. If you don’t, see if you have voltage between the yel/blk and a good ground. If there is no voltage there is a break between the yel/blk and the main efi relay. If you have 12 volts on the yel/blk, check for voltage between the orange/blk and battery positive. If you have no voltage there is a break between the ECU and oxygen sens.

sorry, its not a 4 wire O2 sensor

its a one wire.

and before you say, it should be a 4 wire, its a D15B Vtec motor and a P08 ECU that only has the one wire o2, and only one pin for o2 sensor. i wired it up right, check that it makes it to the right pin on the ECU.

also

after i changed it, ive lost power at 3k rpm’s about 5 times now. power lose will be for about 5 sec’s

:gotme: every diagram I look at shows a heated oxygen sensor form '92 on 1.5 Vtec. So if you’re sure the O2 signal wire is correct, than that’s why you’re getting the code. The ECU is looking for a faster response form the sensor.

its not a usa engine, its a jdm engine, not offered in any usa civic/honda

ya im sure the wirring is right, maybe i have a bad o2??

Ian,

Did you have the correct ecu for this engine. If not it will be looking for a 4 wire heated O2 sensor and if it doesnt see that it will set the code. You need to get the proper ECU and/or talk to Zerodaze perhaps he can convert it i am not sure.

Also you can not clean o2 sensors. At all. You are not supposed to touch them let alone use a torch to them.

it is the correct ecu
