question about pa laws

im looking to buy a 13 foot kayak and my bed in my truck is 6.5 feet so turned diagnol that would leave 6 feet hanging out the back, is this legal?

It is “legal,” you just have to secure it and then hang a red flag on the end of it to make it noticeable (just in case some dumbass behind you doesn’t notice the big ass kayak in the first place).

At least this is how it works for lumber and such.

yeah i knew that with construction materials, just didnt know if it maybe different with a watercraft, i guess it should be ok with the red flag

Close the tailgate and let the extra lenght hang over the cab? Then strap it?

x2! thats the way I see everyone do it

harbor freight in century III has a bed extender it slides in your receiver hitch and comes out the back it the comes up and turns into a t that is the same height as your bed floor so you could set the kayak on that…would help secure it

worth $40 to secure your stuff

i have a kayak for sale (im serious)

it was used twice

call the state police barracks and ask???

wrong…maximum you are allowed to exceed is 18" from the rear WITH a red flag.

Thats I thought to.

requires red flag (s) on the largest piece sticking out. 18inches or more.

 just read the last replies

I always just put my 17’ kayak and/or 17’ canoe on top of my pickup. I built a wooden A frame (kinda like a saw horse) that sits in the bed and holds the canoe at roof height.

I have a 93 Nissan pickup. D21 extended cab. Some sticks out over the front, some out over the back. I mainly take short trips of less than 5 miles to where I put in and haven’t been hassled.

I have been followed by police with at least 5 feet of wood sticking out the back of my truck before. Put the flag on and haul away.
