I just bought a lot of 25 Subwoofers, some work, some dont…would i be able to test them out as they sit? Or will i have to put them in a box and then test them? Im just goin to run 300 watts to them just to see if they bump or not, but they are different sizes and shapes (circle, square, triangle) and I dont feel like getting 10 different boxes just to see if they work or not, but at the same time i dont wanna ruin anything. Any Suggestions? Thanks
measure the ohm’s on them first of all. that should narrow it down pretty good for ya and it won’t take long at all
Just curious, Why would you buy 25 Subs?
they were at a really good price, and most of them are kicker solobarics and compVrs
From that guy on ebay locally who sells skids of electronics/appliances?
He has some cheap stuff now and then
Anyone have a link to this guy?
What guy are you talking about:snky: Ill just say that i got them from downtown buffalo, and if anyone is interested i can post what i got and take best offers on some stuff, not to make money just to break even and so i can get a better set of solobarics
measure the dcr of the coils with a dmm. one’s that read 0.000000 have open coils and need to be reconed. depending on the make & model this is cheap and worthwhile.
drivers that have coils reading >0.5dcr are probably okay - so long as - there is nothing physically wrong with them otherwise (shifted motors, torn spiders or surrounds, big gaping hole in the cone). test these one’s with any amplifier you want, you dont need a box - but don’t feed them alot of power.
post up model #'s and I can get You info.

boxes would only help with sound quality… you can tell if a sub hits by putting some clean power to it. check the surround, and make sure the cones are attached…
post up pix
usually if u press the cone down into the sub u can telle whether or not the voice coil is shot, generally if u do that and it scrapes on the coil, then the coil is shot, if not ur good to go
You should never push a cone, or pull a cone. You doing that is rocking it off center in the gap and causing the coil to hit the pole piece.
in other words, You are making it scratch, AND you are scratching off the coil bind / glue.
You dont NEED a box to see IF THEY WORK.
He’ll listen to me.
I dont doubt that he will.
How much do You know about guassation, motor tech, dcr shift based on amperage, etc?
less than you think
that’s my point.
9V battery across the leads… should move the cone all the way in ot out depending on which way it’s hooked up… easiest way to tell if the VC is shot.
Me and my friend Google know a lot about this. Well, mostly my friend.
that’s great. google /= comprehension.
do we have to break out e-penises?
It would be useless to break out e-penises, cause even if I can’t comprehend crap about audio systems I could make it look like I did so anything beyond this isn’t needed.
