Oh yeah, the ride for pride thing is right down the street from me, so I would definitely do that. I just feel very nervous and scared, yet for some reason I really want to do this. I wanted to get some input on it before I make any real decisions.
And I don’t believe it’s a death sentence. My parents have been riding for over 30 years, and they’re still here. I probably wouldn’t be riding in high traffic areas, because of this fear I have, anyway.
And the superglide is “up for grabs” so that’s why I said that. My mom just bought a new fat boy, so the superglide will probably just sit in her garage, until someone starts riding it… That’s how it was put to me last week. Haha.
My friend got a bike last year and I just wanted to try it out. So he showed me how everything worked and I just started goin up and down my driveway. After a few minutes of that I was going around the block and hooked on it. If you’re afraid to even start, like everyone’s mentioned, Ride with Pride will teach you from knowing nothing at all. Then you just gotta practice and know the risks and how to avoid them.
I’m not going to die an old hermit, afraid to cross the street or the G.I. bridge . For me the paranoia and aggravation began to out weigh the fun in riding. It sounds like Dawn will has some well seasoned riders in the family that can get her a good start. Not trying to spoil her desire, just pointing out that it is a dangerous hobby. If she knows the risks and accepts them, do it.
“Ride Sally, ride!”
Dawn, take the defensive rider course. It’ll get you your license as well as 10 percent off your car AND bike insurance. Prior to takin the 3 day weekend course, i didn’t know how to ride a bike at all, didn’t know how to shift car or bike, and even had no knowledge on how a manual transmission even worked at all. In those 3 days i learned it all, got my license, and was riding that week comfortably.
