My folks have an off brand memory foam matress as does my sister, Although i do not know the specs. I took a nap on it last time i was home to check it out. I can tell you that it is worth every penny and it is the most comfortable thing ive ever slept on.

I think the pound rating refers to the density of the foam. This basically means the higher the pound rating the firmer the foam will be. The lower the softer.

5" is a 5 inch thick matress topper.

10" is 10 inch thick. These foams work so well they dont have to be the full thickness of a regular mattress.

I kinda want to buy one but they are damn expensive.

I just bought a 10" thick queen memory foam mattress from this seller on eBay. I’ve only slept in it for 3 nights, but so far I’m very pleased! I’ve slept very soundly each night so far. Before I bought it from them, I was going to do the JC Penney base + separate topper, but I was concerned about the JC Penney base being smaller than the topper. The mattress I purchased on eBay cost $249.00 + $89.99 s/h = $338.99. Comparable in price to the do-it-yourself option, but the foam is the correct size and already glued together. And it comes with the velour cover! It’s 7" of firm foam (white), topped by 3" of memory foam (yellow). I find it very comfortable so far, maybe slightly softer than a Tempurpedic (I’ll have to go back to Brookstone sometime to check - I haven’t tried the real Tempurpedic for a while), but very similar and very comfortable (and a LOT less expensive). I find it to give much better lower back support than my old spring mattress. FWITW I’m 5’10", 160 lbs, and I sleep on my back, stomach, and side on different nights. Not sure what your extra 2" of memory foam would feel like - maybe someone else here knows.

It’s advertised as being 5 lb memory foam - given some people’s experience at overstock.com, I know the listed density isn’t always accurate, but I have no way to measure mine, except to say that I really like it! It’s yellow in color, if that means anything. The eBay listing is pretty adamant about it actually being the real 5.0 lbs. The shipping took just over a week, cross country. It came compressed and rolled up, and it still has a bit of the foam/chemical smell. Hopefully that won’t last much longer!

It is less expensive than other online stores. I was a little concerned that there would be tears, but fortunatley there weren’t. And although I don’t like the chemical smell, at least it reassures me that the mattress isn’t used! One other thing - I do find it warmer than a standard mattress - now I don’t need as many blankets as before.

I don’t know what else to say, except that I’m very happy with my purchase, and I think it’s a good deal. Good luck with whatever you decide on!
