Quick Question

whats the advantages of going with an external wastegate?
im looking at this setup for my mazdaspeed 6
its $650 for the manifold and like another $250 for the wastegate
just lookin at some insite from people who been around turbo cars longer and have some experience if its worth it or not on a mostly stock car?

In all honesty, there aren’t really too many advantages of an external over an internal as long as the actuator is designed to handle the boost levels you desire. When it comes down to it, they are both just valves. An external gate will make the manifold design more complex and the need to find room form the wastegate itself. Granted, a properly designed manifold and external wastegate placement on that manifold can have flow advantages. I guess it comes down to how much room you have to work with. In your case, being that the manifold is already built/designed its really a toss up. Also, I guess it would depend if with the external it dumps to the atmosphere or recirculates back into the exhaust in which case then you could decide if you want it to have the loud wastegate noise or if you want it to be quiet(er). A lot of variables here and there are probably several points I am leaving out, but I’m sure boxersix or morgan at synapse would know the fine details here if you need to know.

Hope this post makes sense,
Nick

It’s not the wasegate that makes more power over stock, its the manifolds design (unless there is more boost).

so id be better off going with just a better manifold and screw the wastegate

I though from what I read in the original post it that the company offered the same manifold with your choice of and external wastegate or one requiring the use of an internal gate. In which case, it comes down to if you want your car to make wastegate noise (if atmospheric dump) or quiet(er) then ther external dump. If its going to be the same turbo, there will be no (noticeable) difference in power at the same boost level.

im not a manifold master, but i would never pay 650$ for that thing. especially when the ad says “you could buy a cheaper manifold from china or korea” which to me means, you can buy the same thing for less from a different vendor.’
“warranty backed by protegegarage” aka they are the middle man to this taiwan based manufacturer

this site reminds me alot of Lancer shop, for the Evo’s

dont make a 650$ mistake.

Well if the turbo your using does not have an internal gate, then your going to need an external wastegate… And if the turbo does have an internal gate your going to need to block it off for the external gate

i’d rather go to a local shop and get that made

Thanks for lookin out, i was just thinking of doing a full exhaust and saw this and wanted a heads up

dont those engines make some pretty serious gains with an intake, downpipe and a mbc?

there was a speed3 at synapse dyno day that put down some really good numbers with minimals mods., just a bpu setup.

MBC?

Manual Boost Controller.
