Quick Review of the DROID

The only reason why WebOS may be “eh” to some people is because the Palm Pre is only running at 75% CPU (I think it’s like 475mhz when the CPU supports 600mhz). And it has limited memory.

The Pre Plus on Verizon is going to run much better. WebOS just needs to go on better hardware. It runs like a dream on my phone because I have certain tweaks installed, but out of the box after you put a buncha crap on it…it does slow down.

But yeah, some nice phones rumored to come out soon.

No matter what you say, what justifications the phone has for being a POS, the fact remains it still is a POS… has been labled a POS by a majority of the smartphone community, and will probably remain a POS due to this, regardless of what hardware they put the OS in and the tweaks they make.

webOS is a flop, the onyl thing that was remotely cool about it was the cards feautre, which they made a big deal about… which turned out to not work like they had said due to hardware limitiations etc… and now android has a similar feature… and im sure iphone will too… webOS has nothing revoloutionary to offer that android hasent done and that iphone probably will do.

Game over Palm.

Whatever you say :).

Only one issue I encounter with the phone is the ringer is through the speaker in the back, when you set the phone down on any soft surface, the volume is dramatically reduced.

after switching from an iphone, i was a little worried i was gonna be disappointed, but within a day i was able to get just about all of the functionality of the jailbroken iphone back, and have been very happy. pdanet works much better on my droid. like shady said they may not have 100000 apps, but i havent had any trouble finding an app to do the job i was looking for. there are definately some things the droid does better, and some things the iphone does better. the iphone has and i think always will have a better web browser. pinch zoom out of the box(i have now but not quite the same), its much smoother to load and scroll. the on screen keyboard is better. seemed to load pages faster. the droid has better file management, you dont need itunes, and you can directly access the files on the SD card without any trouble.

been messing around with the overclocking a bit more lately might try a full day at 1200mhz to see how it goes. havent had any trouble at 800mhz and 1ghz. they even have a few benchmark programs to help see if the OS is running faster with new ROM’s etc.

I don’t really recommend overclocking your Droid.

Why? Because your droid has the exact same CPU my Pre has. EXACT. And people have been having MAJOR life expectancy issues after OC’ing on the Palm platform to anything over 600mhz (not all, but some).

Do with that what you will, just saying.

how is it? im about to get it

After the last couple failures of Verizon/Motorola not pushing the 2.1 OTA update, I’ve also decided to root, and i’m glad I did. I’m also OC’d, and it’s running without hiccups while still getting good battery life. I have tried 1.1 and 1.2 Ghz with no force closes, but decided it would be best to keep it at 800 for now since I’m loading heavy web pages without a problem. As far as the CPU crapping out… there hasn’t been a single reported issue on the Android/Droid forums.

I am on the verge of rooting…ugggggh.

Start off with Sholes if you want the easiest way… 2.0.5 is very stable

Hybrid how did you change the status bar? Was that possible through rooting or a app you downloaded.

Oh snap Droid for AT&T!

AT&T has already shown they will lock down Android phones though :Idiots

They are just saying that, you can run a phone on their network with them thinking its something else :lol

Obviously you can still root the phone but it still isn’t a good sign for Android on AT&T

Why is AT&T still around? Everyone knows it has the 4th best service out of the big 4 carriers (Verizon, Spring, T-Mobile, and AT&T).

The only reason why it’s survived this long is because of the iPhone but their network has SERIOUS problems. Once the iPhone finally goes to other carriers, you’re going to see a lot of people switch I think.

Really? everyone know that? Because I know a lot of people that would disagree with you.

AT&T is 10x better than t-mobile… Unless you live in NYC or in LA t-mobile is shit. Sprints not to bad, but I still think theyre coverage/service sucks, at&t has some coverage problems in some random areas but for the most part coevers any major area, and their 3g is pretty damn quick… and verizon has some of the best coverage but needs a little more 3g/4g loving…

Verizon and ATT are the two big carriers IMO, sprints dieing and tmobile is still arouind because theirs enough dumb ******* to use it as theyll let anyone get a plan.

From what I have read and understand, AT&T is consistently rated the worst according to many reporting firms.

If you disagree, cool. Fine with me. I have Sprint, and I admit that Verizon has the best network so it’s not like I am biased in any way. AT&T wouldn’t be jack if it wasn’t for the iPhone I think.

Yeah AT&T is pretty bad. i get dropped/failed calls all the time and the 3g seems getting slower and slower on my iphone. I live 3 minutes to crossgates and only get 1 sometimes 2 bars :rofl
Sometimes I ask myself why i pay $80 a month for this BS.
