Quiet Power supplies and DVD-RW drives

What are you huge nerds using in terms of quiet 600W + power supplies for your desktop gaming rigs?

Also, any prefrences for brands on 16x+ DVD +/- RWs? State what and why. I was just leaning towards whatever cheap $30-$40 one I could find, unless there is a good reason that I shouldn’t.

I haven’t been keeping up with the times. :retard:

Trying to finish specs on building myself a long overdue up-to-date desktop PC.

(my current one is a PIII 450. Yeah, I know, don’t say it. :bloated: )

I have had a few power supplies and have never had the problem of one being overly noisy, my case fans make more noise than anything, as for DVD burners I would recommend LITE-ON, had mine for 2 years or so and no problems. I also never had problems with my old cd burner LITE-ON.

here is one for $27.99

Sony DVD burner, by far the best burner I have had (my 4th one already) Sony’s firmware is great and it is not as finicky with media as some others.

ive got a silent 500w right now. Originally there were a lot of problems with heat, then I moved up to a bigger case, hasnt been a problem since. Even during a 10-12 hour gaming session.

Quieter supply means, in a few instances, you may be light on cooling power.

thermaltake here.

silent, steady 12v to the rails, cant beat it.

pc power and cooling also has some nice silent ones.

and burners, forget sony crap, liteon is good, NEC is good, plextor is good, but ur paying for the name, like sony actually.

Right now im using a SATA plextor DVD-DL and a NEC DL, i prefer the plextor only because its a:faster and b:it burns my xbox360 games better than the nec does.

NEC burner 3520A … has never produced a coaster for me.

My PSU is a antec truepower 550 and it is silent for the most part.

PSU’s I mostly hear good things about :

OCZ
ThermalTake
Antec
Seasonic (makes PSU’s for PC power & Cooling)
FSP group/sparkle

They’re located in Rochester (Fairport to be exact). You’ll have another reason to head out there for the day to kill time.

+1

PC Power and Cooling is choice imo.

That place is so goddamn impossible to find. I’ve been there maybe 10 times, I know where it is and I still get lost.

but yea  to frozencpu bought my ps and most other random accessories from them.

Damn, I had no idea they were that close… Gonna have to reconsider some stuff now.

That too. I think any system I’ve built in the last 7 or 8 years has used only PC Power & Cooling power supplies. Expensive, but worth every penny.

I use Antec PSU and Benq DVDRW

Yeah, I was looking at the Antec myself, since the case I settled on was also an Antec. Depending on pricing, I may stick with my original Antec decision.

Antec is a good choice, I went with Enermax due to having good experience with them in the past.

I went with a Lite-on DVD-RW, and it is the only part of my system I’m not really happy with at this point. My old Pioneer DVD-R has been rock solid for several years now, while the Lite-on has been finicky on recognizing discs.

Fortron/FSP/Sparkle Power makes some of the best power supplies available. They are also inexpensive. Go figure. :bloated:

<3 Frozen

i like the new samsung burners. Their optical drives are dead silent. I have an older 8x thats a couple years old works like new.

Liteon is faster but deffinitely louder.

The new samsungs have lightscribe, i think liteon might also.

Both drives are around 30 bucks.
