quitting school

be cool stay in school :mrT:
I dont even know what i want to do yet either… im making 10.50/hr at a moving company… still isnt alot of money… i been working seasonal for UPS for 4 years now and have been talking with a supervisor about becoming a seasonal driver… if i get that im set cuz i’ll be in the union and will get a full time position in 2-3 years. my other choice would be paramedic and go to school for that…

I quit college and it was one of the few things i wish i could go back to re do. I mean yeah my friends that stayed in school are making the same amount of money as me right now, Yeah im one of the few that made it without a college degree but im still 19. I would trade anything to go back in time and try in school I did fine the first 3/4 of the year and my last 1/4 of the first yeari totally gave up on school and worried more about making money and my car. I ended up almost filing bankruptcy (im still living with my parents) and i dropped out to get outta debt. Kinda sad when your 18 and shit broke. Stay in school trust me on that

I took a noncredit machine shop class at CCAC and the guy teaching it also teaches it to highschool kids in a votec center. He has 50 jobs waiting to be filled. I was talking to a buddy of mine’s dad who’s in the brick layers union and he says the same thing. Ditto for some welders I’ve talked to. The jobs are there, people don’t want to do them. If I was younger I’d definately think about working in a machine shop.

I don’t think you know how much it helps when interviewing and having that on your resume! Most people won’t even look at resumes without degrees on them anymore :frowning:

true

allways a job as stripper

most of us on here support our local strippers!@

i wasn’t ready to start college so i took a year off to think about what i wanted to go for instead of jumping right into it and spending money that i didnt have to…well now i am signing up for fall classes at ccac and i still have no idea what i want to do. not that the last year of no school was bad or anything!

i’ve called my degree a “license to interview a million” times. didn’t mean anything more than that. outside of the technical/academic field degrees don’t carry that much weight until your old and looking for upper management positions. twoforty made more working at the mall (no knock) than my wife makes now with a degree from Pitt. Hell, she made more money (per day)lifeguarding in the summers than she does now.

you’ll never hear me preach the positives of a degree until i reap teh positives of my degree :dunno:

my degree didn’t get me shit. i’d glady hand it back and get all my money from school loans. i made it because i work hard and i’m good at what i do

union :hsugh:

can you carry my paystub, i’m not allowed to lift anything heavy…

wow. bragging about the amount of money you make is kinda gay especially when its on a car enthusiast board…

it’s not bragging… sonny knows what i’m sayin. we’ve had this argument before. and this coming from a person who’s idea of “enough money that i didn’t know what to do with” is 12/hr

i was only 18…

same way i feel about you and you life, bud.

Well, Thank you for the comments. I feel I qm mature enough to do school. For those of you who don’t know I moved out the day after I graduated and have been going to school full time and working 40+ hours a week for 95% of that time. I know what I want to do. However, I cannot get into a real college and I have failed more than I’d like to admit at CCAC. I work hard in my schoolwork and my parents are beginning to refuse to help at all with my school expenses. Therefore, I am facing the inevitable decision to not attend school for a few years while I make more money and save to pay my own way to school. I know I can get a good job without a degree. I know plenty of people who have no degree at all and are doing very well for themselves- even taking on positions that ‘require’ a degree. Therefore I am confident that if I market myself and do it well… I can land a job making enough to put myself through some night classes for a while. I have more to think about for now… but thats what it is looking like from my stand point.
