R200 diffs

I’m looking to find out what other gear sets I could run in my Z. The simplest way to improve my car’s acceleration would be to replace the diff. Having a diff in the car that is able to do 185mph doesn’t really help when it comes to autox and drag.

So what I am hoping to find out is if I’m able to use diff gears out of the S13 R200 diffs in my car. Or if there are possibly any other reasonably cheap options open to me. My current plan is to take a 3.7 diff out of one of my parts cars to replace the 3.54 that is currently in the car. This swap alone should at least let me use all of 4th gear in the 1/4, but I hope to be able to use a good chunk of 5th if possible.

Anyhow, if anyone has any insight into this issue please let me know. Thanks!

Matt

240sx diffs are 4.077 i think…i know its around 4.1

Do you have any idea whether the ring and pinion from a 240’s R200 would fit in my R200? The cases are way different, but I’m trying to find out if I could stuff those gears in without axle issues, etc.

Matt

P.S. 4.11s would kick so much ass!

4.06 from what I’ve found.

Anyone have any more info on this? Whether or not it’s possible to swap these gears? If the axles will still work?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

it is 4.083 from my 93 FSM i beleive the 300zx caseing where different but i beleive inside it is all the same R200. but i am not too sure

I used the internals from a lsd 240 r200 and I couldn’t use the 4.1 ring gear. So I did the nest best thing and used a 3.9 from an 87 na 300zx. With the 4.1 it hit the diff cover . If you can find a na 300zx use its gearing. It is sweet.

all 240sx have 4.083. To make life easier to stick to older style r200 cases.

That’s what I was concerned about. I know that the tolerances are slim with even just the 3.7 so I wanted to make sure.

Well I have 2 N/A diffs sitting in a couple of parts cars. Methinks one is going to be pulled and get ghetto posi’d!

With the planned mods I should at least be able to get a good chunk of the track in 5th gear now.
