Race City Drifting

I’ve participated in the Corvette Challenge Cup Slalom in two or three out of the last five years. And if you’re limiting your impression to just ASA-run slalom events, then that could very well be true. But they aren’t the only ones that host autocross events. There’s the ASA events, Corvette club events, Porsche club events, RX-7 club events, and as of last year Miata/Z Club (joint) events, to name a few. I’ve mostly been autocrossing with the Corvette and Miata clubs at the Corvette club’s own slaloms in previous years (on and off between '00 to '03), and as of last year at our own slaloms.

I haven’t attended ASA events, but I can’t speak for other necc members. And now that the attendance at ASA slaloms is hitting 70+ per event and majority of those people getting only 2-3 runs, I won’t likely start any time soon either.

And if you have 70 people at a autocross event and 70 at a drift event doesn’t make one better than the other.

That’s true. Assuming equal interest in both, then that’s a valid comment. And something else I forgot to consider earlier… drifting is probably more of a SPECTATOR oriented sport than autocross, which is probably the biggest reason why Race City & Bud Park have chosen to actively start supporting it. Specatators = ticket sales.

Agreed. Marshalling an autox has been one of my most boring moments. Squealing, smoking tires, does have a certain appeal. I don’t mind doing it, and I’m glad people like to watch it.

But hey if hosting a sanctioned drifting event keeps people like you from colliding with 350Zs on the street, then hey its a good thing, right. :finga:
Where is that damn owned Smilie
Owned is right. lol.
Owned is an understatement.

I would get a kick out of watching a “put-up or shut-up” event where the folks who like to bash others for their driving skills (or whatever) get together and put their money where their mouth is and see who comes out on top. Stratotech session perhaps? One-lap event? maybe a one-out-of-three of something?

Anyway, constanty reading about pissing matches or who can’t drive this or that or how is getting gay and not really the focus of this “Club” is it? Take the bashing and gay-ness to 780, beyond or wherever.

As always, thats just my 2 cents. I appologize for the left-field, off-topic reply.

I would love to see more Auto-X events, and of course drifting. Keeping things off the street. I would also try and support the club members and our customers at such events if and when they compete.

man, lately on this board if ya say anything ya get shit on!! There is way too much friction goin’ on here lately!!

Huh? Which forum have you been reading lately? I beleive the only “shitting on” on here has only been in relation to drifting or something of that matter.

Nah man, it seems like there is always some bashin of some sort. not just this incident. I guess its just me, I don’t really know alot of you so maybe i’m reading this all wrong!! I dunno!! lol

Well, when you find some evidence, feel free to show us and we’ll deal with it. With that said, back on topic.

i think its called what goes around comes around. If you cut someone down, than you should expect the same back (Not directed at you).

well i apologive for ealrier statements toward inzane…and that crash with the 350z…i dont give a fuck…when someone else in edmonton can beat me…let me know

i just dislike autocorss…well solo events anyway…i like curciut racing the most…it determines the drivers from the wanna-bees…by who can visualize the racing line…drifting alsio requires using that same line…well proper drifting…

anyways sorry jason your a nice guy…just keep on topic

I dont have enough power or the willingness to fix shit that breaks when i screw up a drift. :finga:
thats when you cut your losses and SELL your car :E (may not apl to those of you who spend more than 2 grand on there car) lol

Show me an autocrosser who doesn’t know how to take a proper racing line and sets fast times, and I’ll show you faulty timing equipment. Proper cornering techniques are essential in ALL forms of motorsport that aren’t in straight lines.

I’m not dissing the drifters - it’s not my idea of a good time, but I’d never say drifting requires no skills either. If you crash into any vehicle though, you have to question your driving ability - cornering/driving hard and crashing into other objects are not linked elements.

i am talkin about a 8ft line vs. a whole course width…the line is pretty much there with autocross… not all but mostly(u can follow the pilons)…and r u retarted, go tell NOB he sux cause he smoked the wall at cali speedway trying to go around Ueo… oh and the 350z crashed into me, he was behind…i made a point of tearing ahead of everyone that night just incase something happened…he decided to follow…
thanx for coming out…

haha okay u coming out to prove me wrong??? :thumb …o and thx for all the support guys…nice to see

No one is picking on you for the fun of it - if you come out saying that you’re the best drift driver in edmonton, you can’t expect people to simply say “Ok, I agree.” You’ll have to prove it.

As far as the racing line goes, if the autocross line is “set out for everyone”, then why are cars of identical performance being driven with drastically different times? Racing lines are all about putting the car in the proper place at the proper time at the proper speed. That is what is difficult about autocross and any other motorsport requiring handling - anyone can go out and put their car through cones, few can do it error free and still be exceptionally fast.

…WTF…

Where in that post did you read these words: “Dude, I challenge you to an event” ??? I DO NOT claim to be the best driver out there. I AM tired of your cocky attitude towards other drivers and their skills. I would kill to see you out there with some of Edmonton’s best drivers and see how you acctually fare against them.

Your stupid comments are whats causing the negative support. Think before you type.

This thread has gone off the deep end…

i have aready proven it…sorry to be cocky, but who has proved me wrong???

Proven it how? I’ve never met you…and I’m reasonably sure that I’M THE BEST DRIVER IN EDMONTON!

Ok, if you’re the best driver, surely you have a video of your driving?

Or perhaps you’ve won a trophy for your driving you can show a picture of?

Or perhaps a congratulatory document from a sanctioning body/organization of some kind?

Sorry, if you’re claiming to be the best drifter in Edmonton we all need one thing from you - evidence. Claiming that you’re the best because no one has proved you wrong is like me claiming I’m about to have my way with six playmates the second I finish this post - talk is cheap and without proof means nothing.

here u go fuck nuts! beyond.ca and Race City Drift Nights! - Page 3 - Beyond.ca - Car Forums
Sept 30th Drift Night Video - Beyond.ca - Car Forums

oh and forgot to mention bring out your spec v, ill use my sonota :yawinkle:

Jesus Christ…why couldn’t you post this sooner instead of sitting on it and then bitching about an argument? (Still haven’t watched it yet, though)

And no, you won’t see my Spec V on the drift track - Homie don’t play that game. And yes, I know it’s possible to drift FWD cars, I just don’t want to beat on my car that way.

Now that said, I may drift when I get my autotragic Corvette running…

Hmm, looks to me like you were in the top 3 of the drivers who participated in one event.

“And the best drifts of the night in no particular order: Cueman, sil_eighty, rage2”

Judged by a guy who put himself in the top 3. I wasn’t there, so maybe these were the best 3. Maybe there were only 3 drivers, who knows? I mean you obviously have some skills, but don’t let it go to your head . . . :butthead: No need to be rude :argue
