does anyone have experiance with the escort passport 8500? ups and downs aswell as the bell vector v995 any input would be apreciated! i was also thinking about a valentine however they can only be found on e-bay…
Get a GOOD DAMN RESONATOR for your exhaust and forget about the radar detector.
i have an escort 8500 and i would say it’s worth the money.
haven’t had a ticket since i got it 3 years ago. although i don’t drive like a maniac just because i have a detector.
only downside is it doesn’t detect photoradar early enough, so better slow down wherever they put those darn vans this days. also like any other detector out there you can’t detect laser since it’s wavelength is short and once they get you you’re toast.
if you are a careful driver and abid rules of the roads i don’t think you need one. save your money and buy something else… oh yeah having a loud car doesn’t help either, cops will watch you and one wrong move they will nail you…
radar detectors are garbage, even the good ones are always going off. But yea if you dont drive like a maniac there is really no need for one.
I haven’t gotten a ticket in the three years since I stopped driving my Corvette…imagine that. 
If you’re worried about photo radar, check the Edmonton Journal on Mondays…the cops publish the locations they’re thinking about using the photo vans at. That doesn’t mean that they HAVE to be there, but it’s enough to give you a clue on your commute to work.
Its Edmonton’s by-LAW that they can not be any further than 3 city blocks away from the Photoradar signs!!

I heard good things about the Escort 8500. Car and Driver/Motor Trend (can’t remember which) do an annual radar detector test, and the Escort has won like the 3 years running.
Before i go on a long road trip I bet i would invest in one. I was lookin at a Ventine V1 and some people say it pick up laser faster but the normal radar a little slower. sine with the passpost you get close to 15 sec warning for normal radar it seems that the valentine would be a better choice. I miss my passport 8500!! I have a BELL. Its awesome but it doesn’t have a mute button like the 8500 does!! Oh and about the post about laser radar, mine picks up laser. Of course tho if your the only one on the road and you get the laser you are toast!! but if there is someone else ahead of you and the cop points it at them and not at you first, my radar goes off and I’m good to go!! I got away with one like that last week on St AB trail!! Was close!! OOOOOOOOOOH ya and to those that say they’re not worth it or aren’t any use. I’ve been saved by mine so many times. Especially since the City police have roving radar now, and they only use the KA band of radar so my radar detector picks them up before they can even think its me speeding.
so i bought a bell vector 995 and what a waste of money the thing is such a piece of shit…even with all the bands except lasar ka and POP turned off the thing still goes off ALL the time…what a piece of shit i have since returned it, and will most likely go for the valentine…ive heard nothing but good things about it.
