Radio Station Royalties

Had this on my mind well since this morning, and I figure one of you is more informed than I am about the radio. Anyways was just wondering if radio stations have to pay royalties to the artists that they put on.

Thanks

LOL you mean royalties?

The answer is yes.

As long as the artist is a member of an Organization like Socan.

www.socan.ca

not sure if there are others for Canada

Yes, they do pay royalties in order to play songs.

Even night clubs are supposed to pay to play but rarely do…

How much is it anyways?

There is also Payola where artists pay stations to play there music, this is for the most part illegall ,but it still happens.

Good ol payola…

That was when they use to take the Radio station Manager / Playlist manager and dangle him over the edge of the tallest building until their songs were played numerous times on air!! LOL
