Interesting play right now. Thursday there is a vote to raise royalties from 9 cents a song to 15 cents. Apple said they would rather shut down than raise their price of songs to make up the change.
Could be interesting. iTunes is the new wave for artists to get their music out to the world so if iTunes does in fact shut down, it takes a large amount of profit with it.
eh its not that big of deal, UK itunes prices are higher and they bitch about them when they see the U.S. prices. So the prices
will just even them out
Apple pays an estimated 70 cents of every dollar it collects per song to the record companies responsible for each track. The record companies turn over nine cents to the music publishers who control the copyrights to these tunes.
Pretty easy to see who should be absorbing the difference when you read that part.
$0.70 of your $0.99 is going to the record company, who in turn only give $0.09 to the copyright holder. Hmm, $0.64 for the record company and $0.15 to the copyright holder still sounds more than fair to me. To be honest, it still sounds like the artist is getting fucked by the record company.
