“According to iSuppli (no affiliation with Apple, of course), the 4GB iPhone will yield a “49.3 percent profit margin on each unit sold at the $499 retail price,” while the 8GB rendition will kick back a 46.9-percent margin.”

Matt gave the ol nerf to crotch to a guy a few weeks ago. It was pretty funny indeed.
Aren’t profit margins supose to be around 40-50% anyways? The retailer usually sees 30-35% profit and the manufacturer 10-15%
well i wish i could have seen that.
next time… plan it, and take vid
See this is where Apple distinguishes itself from M$ and Sony, they realize that you should probably make money off of the products you sell. This being a business and all.

in case no one realizes, there is almost no profit margin on ipods. so this is weird.
You do know that Microsoft and Sony sell products OTHER than the Xbox 360 and the PS3. Would you buy a PS3 or Xbox 360 with a 50% profit margin?
Let’s see, for the PS3 that would be ~ $1300 and ~$600 for the Xbox 360.
Not gonna happen.
When Apple makes a gaming console, we’ll see if that holds true or not.
What is the profit margin for Apple when selling through retailers?
They might make nearly 50% selling direct, but the retailers take a piece when they get involved.

nah, there is seriously no money in selling ipods.
So the retailers just do it to get people in the door pretty much.
the iPod itself might be not have huge margins but the accessories I bet are HUGE. That’s probably where they are getting their money from.
Apple just announced their quarterly earning. $1 billion+. Not bad.
