So after about a month of owning my 3G my mute switch popped off. I took it in to the apple store and asked if I could buy another one and glue it back on, and I was told I needed an appointment to speak to anyone there.:io:
So I decided I’d buy another switch on ebay but I never got around to it. Decided to call them up today and see if they had any switches in stock, maybe pop over to the galleria during my break from classes.
Me: So the volue mute button popped off, I was wondering if I could get a new one?
Female Employee: I’m sorry, we don’t sell those here, (wtf?) but I can set you up with an appointment to speak with one of our geniuses
Me: wat?
Emp: I can have one of our geniuses take a look at your issue and advise you on a possible fix to your issue.
Me: wat? So I’ll pay them like 50 bucks to look at my iphone and glue that little piece back on?
Emp: If you come in and speak to one of our geniuses than they will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take.
Me: click
I’m all for companies being proper and such, but calling their technicians geniuses? And being unwilling to sell parts for the phone of which there’s been a major recall as so many of these mute buttons have popped off?
Even if I can get it for free, I’d rather buy it for 4 bucks on ebay and install it myself than to hear about the Apple Geniuses one more F***ing time.
I think the whole “genious bar” thing is stupid too. However, if you make the appointment and show up, they will probably just swap out the entire phone.
ever think they might not sell the part because they would like their techs to replace them the correct way rather than “let me buy this part and super glue it on, then when it doesn’t work I’ll bitch at apple”? …just a thought
not trying to shit on your thread, I can understand how you would be frustrated, but there is usually a reason why companies do things the way they do, typically because they work well.
why dont you set up an appointment, go there, if they want money before hand, laugh at them and walk out, if they dont ask for money and take a look. then your good, if they ask for money after, laugh and take your phone and go. lol have fun. this is why i dont care for expensive phones, just more things to go wrong with them, then you need to pay an arm and a leg to either get a new one, if its not under warranty or you need to pay a good amount to get it fixed. id rather spend 30$ or so and get another new phone!
I don’t know what the fuck you are bitching about to be honest. Have you really never gone into an apple store before? They have a really organized way of dealing with people and it seems to keep things running smoothly. They have always been great to me as far as customer service goes.
And who gives a shit what they call their techs? It’s retail, cry about it.
And x2 on what LZ said, what other company DOES sell spare parts for their phones? Chances are that the genius’ at apple might be able to just fix it for free and send you on your way.
The “appointment” typically isn’t very far out. It’s not like a doctors or anything. You can probably set up a time slot that same day or even within a few hour period depending on the mall traffic.
I also find it comical calling people “genius” etc…
Apples support and customer service is pretty top notch IMO. HP actually has treated me very well also. Most any other company has sucked taint sauce.
