RAM question

is ram backwards compatible? i thought i read somewhere that it was.

for example, i have a stick of PC133 in my old ibook. my new one is PC 2100. would i be able to use the PC 133 ram in my new ibook’s extra slot?

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM…i dont know for sure…but I wouldnt risk it until u find out for sure

i don’t see anything detrimental happening from trying it. i just don’t want to go to the trouble of taking two laptops apart if it won’t work.

further research is saying that i only have one slot anyway. so i’m thinking i won’t even bother. i thought i had two.

Your computer will clock the ram down to the slower speed.

so it’s not worth doing?

No, PC133 (168-pin) won’t physically fit in a slot using PC2100 (184-pin)

PC66/PC100/PC133 are “usually” interchangable, depending on the motherboard.

and that

forgot about that. thanks derek.

and thanks for the info formulaLS1.

guess that means i shouldn’t be such a cheapskate and just buy some ram.

Ding your correct sir.

PC2100 is DDR memory.

Shoot me a PM with what kind of RAM you need, and I can send you some. I’m a PC tech and can get sticks for very cheap.

LMK…

you have PM sir.

uh, no i don’t.

strangely, it wasn’t in my outbox. i sent it again.

the answer is “no”

got it after the 5th post but thanks

Fuzzies right…hey , if yur lookin for some new ram go to www.newegg.com best shit around

been there done that. i’m going to see what justin can do first. if not, i’ll probably just get it through work. it’s cheaper than new egg.

Where do you work/can I get some if it’s that cheap?

i work at best buy and it’s only that cheap for employees.

dex, shoot me the specs on your ibook so i can make sure you get the right stuff.
