RAS install

Hey guys, I have a set of RAS to put in my s13 sr. If anyone who has done this install before have any tips for me that would be appreciated. Also as far as the torque procedure for the cam caps, the fsm says to tighten all the bolts to some rediculous low number like 1.4ft/lbs and then go from there, thats like barely finger tight?

  1. Remove oil squirters
  2. Remove a bracket that’s on driver side.
  3. And remove the necessary bolts needed to put rockers.

I took pics of my install here.

You can see the bracket that has to come out for it to fit.

It is a very straight forward install but follow the FSM closely for bolt removal procedure and proper torque for reinstallation.
You are right the caps do not go on very tight. I am going by memory but I believe the increments for torquing them are 2-3Nm, 6-8Nm and lastly 10-12Nm.

I never torqued mine using a proper torque wrench. :noes:

Since you’re only removing a subset of bolts, the proper method is to
remove them all and then retorque them all properly rather then just the
ones you removed.

I’ve pushed my car quite a bit since getting it on the road and so fa so good :dunno:

Don’t install them the way Gonad did, you should take the caps off completly as per the fsm, not just the one side.

Remove the caps completly and follow the fsm for the proper re-installtion ordered to make you the cam and caps are all seated right and torqued to proper. Besides, who needs rockers or rocker arm stoppers. :stuck_out_tongue:
