ok this is the facts.
car just dies… looses all power.
its only happened once before this… i went threw a big puddle… and it cut out
now i let it sit for a hour and took out a spark plug and checked spark, it tried to start on 5 cylinders right away so i stuck the spark plug back in and it ran great until now. im in welland and its raining hard and has been all night. so i went to my car this morning and it started great… i drove down the street and it ran fine threw 1/2/3 at my shift point in third it just died and nothing after that. if i keep my foot to the floor it will start on three cylinders or the timing is fucked(?) … any ideas son? things sitting on a side street getting a ticket and im at work
Clean your maf, check maf wiring. IIRC my gtr had a “flood clear?” if you held the pedal al the way when starting, sounds like what your car is doing, my gtr was also a fucking heap aswell.
id check the maf.
yeah… im at work now but im goin to check the obvi … coil grounds/maf/spark. first time it happened i was going into fifty point and hit a mini lake ontario puddle… fucking took over my whole front of my car and it died so i expected it. but this time it was just hit hard with rains all night.
THis happened to me. I looked all over, I changed the Maf wires cause they were old then I changed the maf, and its worked fine since
thanks wogger… im going to look at mine again … its just wierd that one second it will work and then next i got nothing at all and everything dies. also last time all i did was take a spark plug out and put it back in and it worked so im stumped
I think its random, somedays I would drive it all over town without it happening, and others it would continually do it. Just borrow a friends maf for a week and see if that helps
i think im going to get a new one anyway, but this is what i did… it ran fine home (700 m) puffing smoke but i figured all the unburned fuel that was pumped into the engine and exhaust. all i did was unplugged the maf… unplugged the O2 sensor… plugged them back in and i turned it over… i had to hold throttle but it gave an ugly and slow start but has full/better throttle response then before
ok ladies before work today i started the car… got snowed on all night and any water turned to ice so i figured it would be fucked. it started and runs but it seems to be on only 3 cylinders maybe 4. i pulled spark plug number 1 and its covered in gas so i checked spark and it is sparking. has no balls… no power … and is smoking… smoke it black so its only gas and im limited to resources right now with being at school. anybody have any idea this is alittle fucked. or if anyones in st catheriens and wants to pop by… i can pay or supply beer doesnt matter
Hmmm, Doesnt seem to be the maf then. Not sure the problem, Sorry!
yea the maf seems to be working fine, its weird because spark is firing yet when i unplug the cylinder there is no change in the motor… i can unplug cylinder 1 and 2 and there is no change in the motor… yet when testing spark they seem to be firing… im stuck with this… tn im removing all spark plugs and cleaning them (there two weeks old) also unplugging and cleaning maf and 02 … also cleaning all ignitor connections… also going to remove battery in hopes of resetting the ecu. any thoughts ?
ok guys alittle update… rb is only running on 4th and 6th cylinder… there is spark and fuel… im stuck now. ignitor? ecu?
Post on GTRC they are more helpful
will do just have to join… im tryin to get a rb26 ignitor to test it out. just fucked that it cuts out going down the street … i dont do anything and it runs fine home… i start it in the morning and only 2 cylinders firing… but when i pull coil and check for spark on first cylinder the spark plug shows spark jumping… so im stumped
so i just pulled number 1 and 2 coil
stuck a spark plug in there and 1 fired alittle spark from the side of the spark plug but it was just a small spark… number 2 didnt spark at all
ok well i took coil pack put spark plug in and touched metal and there is spark, now where i pull my spark plugs they have fuel… so how is it i have both but it runs on 4 cylinders after running fine on saturday
So do you think its the coil packs? Do you live close to London Ont?
I had a problem kind of like this too. Im guesing its missfiring like a bitch too? if so check your injectors> Some may be sticking open. just a suggestion. at this point its best to check everything. I would suggest getting new plugs and coil packs too. try it out.
ok so there is a problem somewhere with my injectors… i have a short or something there not firing right and when i turn the car off i can still hear them clicking
alright well im not a big fan of bringing back old threads, but i no how rare info is on rb20’s and there problems so i figured i would give a update… and the fix.
so today march 31 i finally fixed the car.
i replaced the cas just over a week ago and after doing so it ran from/on 2 cylinders to 4 cylinders, instantly i checked my ecu for codes (as it gave me code 11 before) and all it had was a solid red light. i replaced the ecu and thing runs like new.
so my conclusion… water got under my hood and sent a voltage spike ruining my cas and frying my computer.
good news… i still have confidence in my own wiring starts on first turn over and runs like a mothafuking champ
