Back in the news again… and getting more and more interesting i think.
The latest 391,000+ documents leaked on the Iraq war IMO take a lot of the finger pointing OFF the US Military and largely place it on the Iraqi police and Iraqi military… Tons of reports of abuse, rape and murder of iraqi civilians by Iraqi’s in uniform… The US is only implicated because they didnt investigate. It’s kind of strange isn’t it? the US was under fire for their treatment of foreign detainees, but i guess they do it to themselves anyways and seemingly much worse than the US ever did to them.
Iraqi Officials to probe reports
66,000+ dead iraqi civilains… supposedly with names and causes of death in many cases. These reports will help lawsuits by iraqi’s with pending lawsuits for abuse from officials which is great.
WikiLeaks said the reports detailed 109,032 deaths in Iraq, composed of 66,081 ‘civilians,’ 23,984 ‘enemy’ (those labeled as insurgents); 15,196 ‘host nation’ (Iraqi government forces) and 3,771 ‘friendly’ (coalition forces). More than 15,000 civilians died in previously unknown incidents, Britain’s Guardian reported.
Phil Shiner, a lawyer representing Iraqi civilians who allege they have been tortured or harmed, said the documents reinforced his call for a judicial inquiry into British responsibility for civilian deaths in Iraq
Moreover, there is mention of the American hikers. The comment below plus reports that there was specific intent on behalf of the hikers to agitate.
IRAN DETENTION OF U.S. HIKERS
- Documents in the WikiLeaks file also show that U.S. officials privately believed the three American hikers detained in Iraq last year were on the Iraqi side of the border, not in Iran as Tehran contends. Iran is still holding two of them and the document says Iranian leadership hoped to benefit from the incident by focusing the nation “on a perceived external threat rather than internal dissension.”
Blackwater mentioned in a grip of the reports with more civilian deaths:
BLACKWATER
- Britain’s Bureau of Investigative Journalism says it found documents detailing new cases of alleged wrongful killings of civilians involving a firm previously known as Blackwater. Blackwater, which has now changed its name to Xe Services, saw its reputation badly damaged by a 2007 incident in which its security guards were involved in a shooting that killed 14 civilians.
The leak also appears to build support for the case against Iran with reports they were supplying, urging and training Iraqi militia groups
IRANIAN INFLUENCE
Military intelligence reports released by WikiLeaks detail previously well-known U.S. concerns that Iranian agents had trained, armed and directed militants in Iraq.
In one document posted by The New York Times, the U.S. military warned that a militia commander believed to be behind the deaths of U.S. troops and the kidnapping of Iraqi government officials was trained by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
way too much to take in… and another 17,000 documents coming.
Is it even possible that this Brad Manning kid did all this or do you think there are dozens of people now getting into the act of leaking large amounts of classfied intel?
how the heck does wikileaks end up with all this information?
I bet there are waaaaaay more people coming forward with stuff like this… the kind of people who would put out a fire even if the victim didnt pay the fire protection bill…
Or guys like Daniel Ellsberg who leaked 7000 pages on the Vietnam War? He suggests here that it may not be Bradley Manning… Considering how recent some of the documents are perhaps it couldnt be?
The only firefight where I lost friends was with Iraqi police and military combined with local insurgents. That was the intel we received after the fact.
Everything said in those reports is pretty much spot on for the last time I was there.
There is also a TON of people being trained in Saudi Arabia, Syria, Yemen, and even Sudan, then being sent in to Iraq.
I don’t think there are that many people coming forward. MOST of the men and women in the military do have a sense of their core military values.
The charge sheet for this fggt.
anyone else skeptical that this kid is the sole leak?
Considering all of the information he can’t be. Moreover, there are so many different leaks out there i think that people are simply overlooking how many people do leak information and more importantly, that no matter what, humans have to interact with the information… there will never be anything 100% leak proof.
I wanna see the dirt on china and Russia now…
Speaking of Wikileaks

i’ve only read one article on the subject but that leak seems to be slightly out of step with the others… mind you… there’s 250,000 of them so there’s bound to be ones like it.
i remain and ardent enthusiast.
