reading tire specs -> speed rating, blow outs ? ever happ

hey guys i know most tires have alphabetical speed ratings, some tires are rated faster than others. some people say that going beyond the rated speeds can cause a tire to blow out, early blowouts a usually caused by tire damage, under/over inflation, improper balancing, but if the tire is properly maintained, would it really blow out from going too fast ? have ANY of you EVER had it happen to YOU ? on good tires, just going above the speed rating, im not talking about shit worn tires that you picked up from the yard, but tires you purchased within a season or two, have one ever blown out for anyone from going too fast ? was it properly inflated/maintained and never repaired ? alot of people seem to be speeding on underrated tires, let me know what you guys speed,

please refrain from ‘slow down’ comments, i am not acusing anyone (inlucding myself) of going too fast. this can also be applied for track driving on non-racing tires and going too fast

You have nothing to worry about.

Buy good, suitable, tires. Install correctly and keep inflated correctly. The speed ratings are based on what the tire can do for more than 12 straight hours IIRC.

i did 276 on H rated tires, im still alive.

I dont kno you much sasha but you have a very beautiful car id be scared

to do that if i owned your car  , as for the tires my dad has an

GMC sonoma and it had the factory non speed rated tires but he was

doing 210 something around there and nothing ever happened im

geussing as long as your tires are well maintained nothing should happen

like darkforcejackal said…

you should be fine.

the tires are engineered to blow up at like 1000% of their rating.

but it’s for a reason.

it’s not just about the maximum speed in a straight line, they also take into account hard braking from that maximum speed (which will also load the front tires with way more weight) and sidewall construction, heat dissipation, things like that.

It’s not so much about the blow up but what is considered a ‘safe’ level of performance.

Havent you seen the option vid where dude flips his 350z @ about 270km and his was fully caged

fuck ing spindle ripped away with the control arm/brake setup + rim all still intact

sounds good guys, thanks alot, i guess i feel safer about high speeds now.
