I have broken 2 rear traction arms in less than 6 months. The tube that hold the bushing is tearing in half just past where it is attached the the rest of the arm. Both have broken in the exact same spot, on the same side just from daily driving the car and I have not hit anything with that wheel at all like a curb or big pothole. Car is lowered with Tein basic coilovers and all off the rear multi arms are stock. Has anyone else had any similar experiences or any suggestions on why this would happen or what I could do to fix it other than the obvious of buying aftermarket arms?
was the car aligned after the very 1st install of these arms? if the alignment was out, even the slightest, it would CONSTANTLY subject the rear suspension (and the arms) to additional forces that they were not designed for. this could be the cause of premature failure
It is in the scrap bin at work. I will see if it is still there tomorrow and try to grab it to bring it home to get a picture. Also, it is not breaking in the middle. The part that broke was the peice of tubing welded on the end the holds the bushing. The tube just above where it is welded to the rest of the arm. I may end up fabbing new ones once we get a TIG welder at work that I have been waiting on for a while now.
I was wondering if it could be from the alignment being out a bit and made even worse by being lowered with urethane bushings adding even more stress. I have had it aligned though just after it was I lowered the car when it still had the original arms on it.
install new 1ns get ur alignment done right away, it could be off or maybe something else is bent that isnt noticable by eye. do your tires have and abnormal wear on tires.
The new one is already on. The guy came to pick up the scrap yesterday afternoon after I had left so I can’t even ge ta picture. I may still have the first one that broke in the back of my truck. I will check this weekend. I am also going to try to get it aligned this weekend or on monday. My tires are a litle worn on the insides I am assuming just from camber more than anything, but the edges of the tread blocks aren’t feathered or anythign weird like that. I will get an alignment and see if everythign is in line or not.
