rebuild motor

Being easier on the motor is only going to go so far I would think.

I understand the idea of low boost on bigger turbo = good airflow = decent power without big boost.

But on the same thought H.P. = cylinder pressure so no matter how you split it up you are still going to have to create the same cylinder pressure to achieve whatever H.P. you are striving for whether its a 30R runnin 24psi vs. a 35R runnin 20 or 21 psi to achieve a given H.P.

with a bigger turbo there is less back pressure, and less heat that the motor has to deal with…

either way your good, dont be afraid of the journal bearing 60-1 either!!!

Its a toss up. If you are willing to put up with the lag then the 35r is good to go.

But a general rule is, if you dont plan to push it to its full potential (in your case you dont plan to ) then go one step down. You will hate a big turbo on pump gas and low boost.

Trust me, there are plenty of people putting down 420-500 on gt30’s and they spool at lower RPMS…

well that one kid is making 407 at 15psi, can i make that at 15psi with the gt30? i’m still a little worried about 15psi but if i’m driving it conservatively then when will i start boosting with the 30? and i’m not finding the 3065 on the garrett website http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/products/turbochargers.html and what are the pros and cons of going internal or external wastegate?

The 3065 is not a true Garrett turbo. It is a Forced Performance turbo

ummm the 3065 is more expensive than the gt35 by 150 dollars. how are the garrett gt30’s? is forced performance better than garrett? again what’s the difference between an internal and external wastegate?

I believe that the FP turbo’s are using the Garrett Ball bearing center’s and just mating different compressor/turbine wheel combo’s that Garrett does not offer.

Internal gates are integrated into the turbo’s turbine outlet section which are then controlled by an actuator , and usually dump into the o2 housing in the exhaust outlet of the turbo.

External is just that it is mounted usually off of the manifold before the turbo and is usually dumped to atmosphere by most, but can be re-plumbed back into the downpipe. Also has the advantage of usually better boost control, and the ability to alter the spring rate within the wastegate as well

I would really only consider a very strong N/A setup for my car if I were DD’ing mine.

If you’re dead-set on boosting it, a GT3582R will take a longer to spool but when it comes on hold the heck on…a good choice for the parameters you’re laying out (not always being in boost, act normal on low RPMs & take a while to spool, then with the high-tune and boost increase it’s a whole new animal. I think either the GT30 or GT35 ball bearing series would serve you well.

when am i going to hit full boost with a gt30? the gt35 hits full boost at 5500 with vtec. i really don’t mind it being laggy it being a street car and all. and i think i like the idea of me being able to drive it normally without the turbo kicking in. what gt30 will be most comparable to the gt35?

yo i have the stock block b16 and i love the 35r with my 7psi spring on the wastegate it made 293 and i know on 7 psi that it was a 13 sec car bc i raced acouple cameros ss and beat them so if you go with 10 to 12 psi it will be safe my car ran 4 months on 15 plus psi beatin the shit out of it every time i took it out my car had over 3000 miles and 40 plus passes on it the car ran a 10.82 at 130 not bad for a lil b16

hey i’ve been waiting for you to chime in. is that thing still running well? i’m thinking electronic boost controller one setting at 6psi and another at like 12. was i right saying you hit full boost at vtec? when do you start to spool? also can you give me a quick rundown of what’s in your buddy’s all motor crx?

well i wouldnt fuck with the boost controller bs run 12 psi all the time but all you have to do is keep your foot out of the gas and for spool time it sparts to spool at like 3500 or somewhere close but as soon as it hits 5500/5600 its all over revin to close to 9500 and for The all motor monster its 11.5 to 1 comp wicso pistons eagle rods pro 2s cams its a 2.0L true gsr etc the list goes on and on its nothing really special he just knows how to drive the shit out of the car and knows how to build a motor… both of our cars are basic set ups
