My buddy has this mid 80’s Dozer that needs a turbo rebuild in the worst way. its a Dresser TD-8E with an AI Research t-04 turbo.
I was thinking the Cat dealership in Batavia might know (since thats where the dozer is), but I figured I would ask the all knowning nyspeed…
Do you know what engine is in the dozer? Chances are that a rebuild kit is not available, you’ll need to buy a reman turbo. In that case, it’s a fairly simple swap.
What is it doing that you think it needs a turbo rebuild?
Lol. It’s gushing oil and it has A LOT of shaft play. Is the model not conducive of the engine?
I’d say it needs a rebuild lol. The engine is likely an International DT239. A complete reman t04 turbo is about $700 give or take a bit depending on the specific model plus shipping and core. Get all the info off the tag on the turbo and I’ll be able to get a closer price. You’ll also need a couple gaskets, maybe some hoses and clamps. I might be able to do it depending on when it needs to get done.
Its my buddies brothers dozer. when you say you might be able to do it, do you mean rebuild it? he has it off the dozer already.
I’m not finding a rebuild kit, only reman turbos. If he has it off already, tell him to just buy a reman turbo and be done with it. It’ll probably be cheaper anyway. If he took the old one off, I’m sure he can handle putting the new one on.
thanks, ill let him know. Whats a good place to get a reliable reman from? the original one has last 20 years and he expects the new one to as well
