rebuilding porsche history (959)

sorry if its a repost but this is epic

What a way to start…

This thread makes it sound like he bought the wreck for $100k? Incredible that they’re worth that much in that shape: Albatross or Gold Mine? 959 Parts Car on eBay... - Pelican Parts Forums

Accident car from Japan. Bought by a guy in the Netherlands for about $100K or so, and was going to put it back together…

… I figure that this car will resurface again when they realize that there are complete cars for sale in Europe (especially now) for less money than you can put this one back together for.

So much for that prediction, lol.

Last progress pic:

Step 1) Pull VIN plate…

Holy shit. You’d have to be completely dedicated and have pockets deeper than deep to pull that off. There isn’t a vehicle in the world I’m passionate about that I would go through this. I’d take the $300k+ and just buy a new car and have zero headaches.

This.

I can’t see doing a rebuild like this on something short of a 250 gto

Mhmm!

a good 959 can be worth a million, so getting one for $300k is worth it all day long…

An original 959 is worth a million. Not one that’s total’ed and contains some 961 parts, some custom “one off” parts, a bunch of non-factory molds and no matching VIN #'s and a bad title. The guy even stated, it’s about the car, not the money…as he isn’t going to sell it. A guy like Jerry Seinfeld, who owns a 959, wouldn’t give this guy $250k for this car.

If I’m this guy, I buy a Porsche CGT or something really crazy for $400k and enjoy it.

On the other hand:

What if he isn’t rebuilding it for profit and has always wanted a 959(I haven’t read the thread, so if he is planning in selling it… My bad). He buys it for 300k and puts some money into it, let’s say 200-250k which I feel might be high, the he owns a car for 500-550k that would have otherwise cost a million. Sure he has to do a bunch of work and spend time on it, but if it’s a project and something he does as a hobby then I look at it as saving money.

Some people just have cash and time to burn haha

959s are cool. this project was a waste.

i mean i guess if you do have cash and time to burn, whatever floats your boat, idk.

i could go either way on this one but leaning more toward the Beckington camp

Rebuilds can make them worth more if there is a good story, you know like, it was in a museum in Ky and a sink hole swallows it up. cough:corvettes:cough

959’s are pretty awesome…

turn your nose up however you want, but this car will bring a profit, and probably one into the 6 figures for this guy (minus his time)

To put things into context, they made 1,315 Ferarri F40s vs 288 Porsche 959 cars

Who cares?

This is cool.

You guys really need to get your heads out of your asses.

I can appreciate the work. From an investment standpoint, I get what you guys are saying… but like the guy building it said, it’s about the car not the $$.

When am I going to be able to say that? :frowning:

I don’t even like 959s and that was a fucking heroic read  That guy is immensely patient, especially with the one douche. Bump this when the car’s shot with color

But where would I keep my head??

Under my umbrella.
